I have found the death record for Mary BENNETT who died in 1902 Detroit Wayne and her daughter Sarah KENTLE who died in 1887 Hamtramck Wayne Michigan . I know her sons William born 1858 and Stephen born 1865 also left the UK and settled in Michigan I have found census records for William giving his birth as 1860, but haven't found anything for Stephen although there is a "tree" for the family with the death for Stephen as 2 sep 1892 Detroit Wayne. Any help with this family would be excellent.
Thanks

Stephen Bennett age 26 b England occupation moulder residence when married Detroit father Wm Bennett mother Mary Garrett
Married a Catherine Jolly age 31 b England her residence at time of marriage Detroit her father Fred mother Catherine Geddes

There was a immigration record for a Stephen Bennett b 1866 England age 14 (Farm Lab) on the 29/8/1880 ship Polynesian going Quebec along with him Mary Bennett age 44 (wife )Sarah age 19

Gosh thanks for that. I must admit it does seem right to me especially as the immigration record works for Mary born 1835 and Stephen born 1865, and Sarah. I did struggle to find information about the family once they left the UK.If Stephen was married in Canada he could have lived there for a while. I had made the mistake of assuming because Michigan was near New York that they would have arrived there. Serves me right lesson learned
William was a molder of "stove plate" or that's what it looks like according to the 1910 census, then in 1920 he was a sheet metal worker and finally in 1930 he was a book salesman. That is of course if this is the correct man. According to the census he says he immigrated in 1878 or 1886. He married Emma Weiss in 1885.
Thanks a million

This looks like the death record for Catherine Bennett, nee Jolly/Jollie: http://seekingmichigan.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p16317coll1/id/979263
There are a number of good online sources for deaths in Michigan. There are some links here: http://deathindexes.com/michigan/index.html I didn't see a match for Stephen in 1892, but maybe his name was mangled.

Yes hard to prove this is the same person maybe a death will confirm his parent's if you can find one ...
I see a tree with the same William married to a Emily Harwood Macraw died 1936 Whittington Norfolk with a picture of his grave ... ???
William Bennett Baptism 16/5/1858 Northwold Parish Norfolk
Herbert Bennett born 7/12/1860 baptism Northwold Parish
Emma Bennett baptism 4/5/1856 Northwold Parish all the same parent's incase you don't have these

"Moulder" on the marriage of William and Emma as well.
There was a death of a William Bennett 16 May 1931 but the age would have been out, he was born 1866 ?
William and Emma were living with the Blackett family on the 1920 so perhaps both passed on between 1920 - 1930 ???
The son William Weiss Bennett born 1888 may have passed away 27 November 1944 aged 56 years.
Father William Bennett Mother Emma.

Wilhelmina Bennett/Blackett passed away 19 May 1936 - Burial Evergreen Cemetery.

Wilhelmina buried at Evergreen Cemetery, could there be a family grave there - Wonder if it is worth checking with Evergreen Cemetery to see if William Bennett Snr and Emma Bennett or even Mary Garrod/Bennett are buried there ?

William was buried at Evergreen Cemetery. He died 06 Feb 1928. His son Herbert was the informant. He is listed as widowed. Unfortunately his DOB and names of his parents are listed as "Unknown".

Gosh and thank you both what a lot of work you have done on my behalf. I really do appreciate it and Sandra the flowers really made me smile. So thanks for everything. I had looked on the websites but obviously hadn't put the right criteria in.
Can I be extra cheeky, I had looked at the US City directories and wondered what bds meant. I shall try to find out more about Mick Stove Co. Finally is S E Cor a company or an address this is from the 1885 directory for Stephen.
If you want any help with the north east of England ask.
Regards
Rosemary

bds means boards and S E Cor is probably Southeast corner.

"I see a tree with the same William married to a Emily Harwood Macraw died 1936 Whittington Norfolk with a picture of his grave ... ???"
I had seen this tree as well but had discounted this William as the only common denominator was Whittington and the date of birth at 1852 was just so out,the family name of Herbert was there though. So Im still waiting for corroboration one way or the other.
Thanks again
Rosemary
