Desert is an area in Clonakilty Co Cork.   It is in West Cork.

This is  a link to Griffiths Valuation with surnames living in the Desert area.

http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/cork/desert.php

Desert Graveyard is in the barony of Ibane & Barryroe in the Poor Law Union of Clonakilty.

This is list of Cork Graveyards  -

Unfortunately there isn't any information on resources for Desert cemetery.

I had a look at www.historicgraves.com  and keyed in Desert for graveyard and Rathbarry cemetery came up as there was one burial for a Bartholemew Whelton of Desert.   Obviously this man was from Desert but buried in a cemetery not too far from the area.

Are you sure your ancestors are buried at Desert?   What name are you looking for?

Hope this helps

Yes,  but the Gortroe/Desert  you mentioned could be a possibility also.

Gortroe and Desert seem to have been combined.

Paudie McGrath has some photos of Gortroe cemetery on his website -

You might find something useful on that.

Thanks for the help everybody. The funeral notice says mass in Cloughduv Church and burial to Desert afterwards.

You didn't give us any surname. That might help.

I still feel it is the Desert near Clonakilty but I could be wrong.

When did they die?    I have relations in Cloduv and could ask them.  It is such a tiny place everybody knows each other and would know where people originated from.   More than likely your relative or their spouse came from around the Desert area.

If u could give us a name that could be a great help.

Desert is short for Desertserges, Enniskeane, Co. Cork. Hope this is what you are looking for.
Few miles west of Bandon, Co. Cork.
