THIS PHOTO OF A WELSH GUARDSMAN AND WE BELIEVE HIS SON WAS TAKEN AT H RIDELL PHOTO STUDIO IN BARGOED, WALES SOMETIME BETWEEN 1915 -1925 .WE HAVE FAMILY SURNAMES OF TRUSCOTT AND JAMES.
ANY HELP TO ID THE SOLDIER WOULD BE GREAT.

I can't see a service/pension record for a John James, however looking at other Welsh Guards service no's. this man would have attested mid 1915 which is consistent with the pre 1916 uniform in the picture.
Only circumstantial of course.
Awarded the 15 Star Q.D. 16/9/15 ,France. He was in the 1st. Batt.
Wounded 3 times, POB Bargoed.

Just to throw a spanner in the works my James family in Victoria stayed as James, but those that stayed in UK became Janes. So I would check both James and Janes, just in case.

The Welsh Guards Archivist may be able to supply a copy of his record. The Guards are one of the few regiments who kept a copy. It costs £30 but you maybeable to sasy you are only interested in a man born in a certain place or with a specific parent.
