On familysearch.org is a marriage at Souldrop in 1832 between Edmund LEACH and Elizabeth JAMES.
I suspect that this is the Edmund and Elizabeth who lived after their marriage in Wollaston, Northants.
Please could someone with access to the original record see if there is any additional information.
-
I looked on Ancestry and Find My Past, but there is no further info
-
Thanks MaryMc- hoping someone has access to the full transcript or the original pr

Are the Edmund & Elizabeth that you are looking at in Wollaston in 1851 with children Mary Ann, Eliza (10) & George W (1) :-\
If so Georges birth cert would confirm mothers maiden name :-\
A possibility
Births Sep qtr 1849

Do you have the Family in 1841 Census?
It looks like to me that Edmund is with his Mother in 1841 in Wollaston;
Edmond Leach, 30, Ag Lab
Elizabeth Leach, 76
I cant find a Edmund with Wife Elizabeth and Children Maryann/Eliza in 1841
As there is such a large gap in Childrens ages could he have married 2 Elizabeths?
Also I can find only 2 Baptisms to Edmund/Elizabeth in Wollaston;
MARY ANN, 26 May 1833
JULIA, 12 July 1835
So as Rosie suggested I would get the Birth Cert of George W
Trish :)

Thanks Rosie and Trish. This is not a direct line so I really don't want invest in the birth certificate.
I am pretty sure that Edmund is the sibling of James Leach born about 1808 who doesn't seem to have been baptized but always claims in the census to have been born in Wollaston. He fits nicely into the gap in baptisms.
I will probably order the film for Souldrop to check the marriage of Edmund and Elizabeth if no one is able to do a lookup.

Sorry I cant be more help.
-
I can pop into Beds Archives early next week to check this out

Thanks JohnP, I finally remembered to check the Northants marriage strays index which is online and it does confirm that Edmund Leach was 'of Wollaston'. But if you could see who the witnesses are that would be a great help - maybe!
I have discovered that Edmund got into trouble for stealing food (1853 I think) I found it on find my past, and after that he disappears. I think that our James born about 1808 is a brother of Edmund.

Its interesting to note that in 1851, 1861 & 1871 Elizabeth Leach is born Kettering so is this the wife Elizabeth that Edmund married in Souldrop in 1832. Another point is that in 1851 there's a big gap between children Mary Ann 1833 & Eliza 1837 and the young George born 1849.... so did first wife Elizabeth die & Edmund remarried another Elizaberth prior to birth of George? I've not found it. In 1861 & 71 Elizabeth is a widow so when did Edmund die? In 1871 she was living with daughter Mary Ann, now wife of William Sharpe, as was son George Leach (who was with his sister in 1861)
In 1861 living in Gt Doddington mother in law Elizabeth Leach, widow born Kettering is with daughter Julia now wife of another William Sharp ?
Cheers John

I was puzzled by that too John, I have now found one of those Sharp marriages in the marriage index
William SHARP otp, [Woolmonger Street], bachelor, full age, shoemaker, father Robert, labourer
Mary Ann LEACH otp, [Bridge Street], spinster, full age, father Edmund, labourer
1855 19-Mar Northampton All Saints
Julia married in 1855 also in the Wellingborough Registration district to the other William Sharp
There is a burial in All Saints, Northampton of Edmund LEECH of Woolmonger St age 46, 8 Nov 1854, I think this must be him

From Souldrop parish records :-
Banns 25 Mar, 1 Apr & 8 Apr 1832
Edmund Leach of Wollaston, Northants, bachelor to Elizabeth James otp, spinster
Marriage 26 April 1832
Edmund Leach of Wollaston Northants, bachelor to Elizabeth James otp, spinster
Witnesses Thomas James & Jane Gell
I checked Souldrop baptisms for Elizabeth James but did not find her.
Jonathan & Mary James baptised Thomas 24 May 1807, Sarah 28 May 1809, Joseph 24 May 1812 and William 20 Jun 1819.
John & Hannah James baptised William 8 Jun 1800, Mary 19 July 1801 & Joseph 22 May 1808.
Burials at Souldrop
8 Mar 1809 Joseph son of John & Hannah James
4 June 1811 Hannah wife of John James
21 Feb 1823 Joseph James age 10
12 Feb 1841 Jonathan James age 61
Souldrop marriage
25 Mar 1806 Jonathan James of Finedon, Northants to Mary Pack
Knotting marriage
30 Nov 1798 John James of Milton Ernest to Hannah Pack of Souldrop
So if witness Thomas James was Elizabeth's brother then she's daughter of Jonathan & Mary... ?
Regards
John

Just looked further... seems Elizabeth & children were staying in same household as Mary James ages 60 & Thomas James aged 30..... her widowed mother & brother perhaps? ...most likely I'd say

In 1851 Thomas James is unmarried age 45 lodging with George Wells & wife Hannah.
In 1861 Thomas James unmarried age 57 lodging with his brother William age 43 & family in Brampton, Hunts
