Hi
I am trying to confirm the surname of William's bride
I know that William Durham married a JANE sometime between 1845 and 1850
FBMD only shows 1 possible date, 1850 Highworth
but there are 3 possible Jane's listed
Jane = Rowland, Sellwood, and Wicks.
I know that the Jane I am looking for was born abt 1831 in Hannington (according to 1851 Census)
I have checked familysearch, between 1825 and 1835 for baptisms. Found some Jane's but none of these surnames appear.
Any help confirming her surname and parents would be brilliant
Thanks in advance

Rosie
Thank you.
Yes that is my William and Jane in 1861 in Latton
In 1851 they were living in Hannington, Wilts
(just a few yards away from where I lived as a small boy)
I have not been able to confirm Jane's surname.
With your help, it was not Rowland.
I know so much about her later life, but not her maiden name.
I will continue researching.. and amend my tree...
Thank you

They had a son who was called Giles Rowland Durham, born 1857, died 1861. Which, with reference to the 1850 marriage, seems to point to a Jane Rowland being the wife of William Durham!
Baptism at Hannington, 2 September 1827
Giles Rowland
parents James + Mary
1841 possibility
piece 1178 book 8 folio 15 page 8
Parish - Hannington
James Rowland Ag Lab 55, Yes (born in county)
Mary Rowland 50 Yes
Jane Rowland 10 Yes
Odd, an Elizabeth Rowland was baptized at Hannington, 6 August 1830, parents James and Mary. Not Jane!
Giles Rowland was away from home in 1841, is back with his widowed mother Mary in Hannington in 1851 (piece 1833 folio 174 page 9). No sign Jane

Thank you.
Hi knew about Giles Rowland, their daughter Hannah died the same year. My ancester their only other child Mary Ann survived. She was with her Durham grandmother on 1861 census. So maybe it was Jane Rowland after all. No record of the Elizabeth born 1831 yet for me..
Thanks again

Hi
Looks like James and Mary Rowland had a daughter Jane. Baptized 29 July 1810 at Hannington. Sadly it seems she died young. There is a burial there, 23 June 1826, of a Jane Rowland, age 15
An idea!
After Jane died, James and Mary Rowland have son Giles, then their final child, a daughter, in 1830. They baptize her as Elizabeth, but then decide that they would really prefer that she was called Jane.
Possible? I can't see a burial of Elizabeth, and like yourself, can't see any sign of her later.

Hi
I was starting to wonder if Jane was a 'family name' rather than her baptised name.
Everything points to this being the family, but just not able to be 100% sure.
Does anybody have a contact at Highworth parish, who maybe able to search the 1850 marriage records and see what maiden name, and hopefully fathers name appears on the marriage or banns record?
thanks for everything so far

'Highworth' in the index is the name of the registration district and actually covered 17 different parishes including Hannington and Highworth. It doesn't mean the marriage took place in Highworth itself, could be any one of the 17 parishes.

Think the best thing you could do would be to order a copy of the marriage certificate to see what it says ...I still think there is some connection to the family in the 1841 census :)

Hi reeves_colin
Re the 1850 marriage - there is no entry for William Durham and his bride in the Highworth Parish register.
Perhaps they were married in the registry office.

Highworth, the registration district - for marriages in Dec qtr 1850 the page numbers in the GRO index run from 629 to 659 (some are indexed as Swindon)
The William Durham marriage was page 637. Seem to be three marriages in all with that reference.
(No marriages indexed pages 636, 638)
Page 639 will be a new parish, according to Family Search the marriages with that reference were at Highworth (the parish church of Highworth, unusually perhaps for 1850 they seem to be sourced from BTs)
I think that the parish church marriages in a district were indexed in some kind of order, possibly for somewhere like Highworth it would be done alphabetically by name of parish.
List of parishes in Highworth RD
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/highworth.html
So it looks as though the marriage might have been at Hannington.
