My GGF John James according to the family Bible is said to be from Dorset he was a Master Mariner. He also was a widower in 1881 when he married an Elizabeth Ann Neck in 1881 in Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales when he was aboard the Richard Fisher. I do not know who his previous wife was or if he had other children.
According to the marriage certificate On Jan 3 of 1881 John James (also known in the family bible as William John James but is written as John James on the certificate) was 50 when married making his birth abt 1830 and Elizabeth Neck was 27.
I can trace Elizabeth roots but I am unsure of John's
I believe John moved to Newfoundland in the mid 1880's and Elizabeth shortly followed.
I believe that there son Frank H James was born in Wales or close by in 1886 and a daughter named Emmaline prior to the marriage or she could have been from a previous marriage by John. Also I am told by the family their youngest son Cecil Stanley James was born in abt 1891 on a trip over to newfoundland.
John's father was also John James and he was "Coast Guard" according to the marriage certificate.
If anyone can help me please reply

i am left to believe that there are many John James' out of Dorset. Questin From your experience do you believe that this would be the same man. And if so how would I prove it?

I suppose its going to be difficult to prove this is the right John James. I put this family down as it was the closest match I could find in the census. Perhaps anyone else more experienced can give you some advice.
