I am looking for information on my grandfather Bert Charles Thresher. I believe he was born on May 17, 1890 in England. He arrived in the United States of America in 1906 according to the census. He then came to Canada in 1914 and settled in the province of Saskatchewan.
I have no other information. If anyone can help me locate his family and help me find out why he left England, I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

His Birth Registration:
September qtr 1886
Taunton Registration District vol 5c, page 337
Thrasher, Burt Charles

The birth year does not match what I have for him.
Another relative told me a couple of years ago that he may have been a Barnardo boy.
More research is sure required to confirm that the additional information I have received tonight is in fact my grandfather.
Thank you for your prompt response to my inquiry. It is greatly appreciated.

Who does he list as his father on his marriage certificate?
-
Bert Thresher sailed on the SS Philadelphia, Southampton - New York, in March 1906.
On the outbound passenger list his age was given as 21, farmer.
On the list lodged with the New York authorities he was Bert "Tresher", 20, farm labourer, last resident in Bridgewater, headed for Belvidere Illinois to his cousin Charles Diamond resident there.
Although the details vary slightly on the two documents they definitely relate to the same person as they are linked by his ticket number of 16911.

I see that he was described as grandson of George and Mary in 1891, and as their son in 1901.

On the list lodged with the New York authorities he was Bert "Tresher", 20, farm labourer, last resident in Bridgewater, headed for Belvidere Illinois to his cousin Charles Diamond resident there.
Charles Diamond of Belvidere Illinois appears to have been born in Shurdington, Gloucestershire in 1885, son of George Diamond and Mary Ann nee Thrasher who had married in Bridgwater district in Jun qtr 1882.
The 1871 census shows that Mary Ann was a daughter of George and Mary Jane Thrasher, with whom Burt/Bert was enumerated in the 1891 and 1901 censuses.

FreeREG shows that Burt Charles THRASHER was baptised privately, 14 Feb 1887 at Burrowbridge, Somerset, son of Ellen THRESHER, servant.

Hi checking online trees one has Bert/Bertie Charles Thresher as born 25th January 1890 baptism 6th April 1890 in Long Ashton Somerset, Father Charles Mother Ann, they are in 1891 Long Ashton RG12/1953/32/8.
Unfortunately they have chosen the incorrect Bert/Bertie, as this one born 25th January 1890 dies Sept 1974 Surrey South Western v17 page 1103
Their is a border crossing of a Bert Thresher aged 24 b England, 31st March 1914 Emerson, Manitoba from Illinois

She named her husband as Bert Thresher of Stalwart, Saskatchewan, and her father as Levi Peal of Kingston Illinois.
