I am looking for information about a Charles Moore who was well-known in Australia as a retailer (i.e. please refer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Moore_and_Co. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Moore_and_Co.)). Various sources indicate that he was born in Londonderry with one source (i.e. wikitree) stating that he was born in Newtown Limavady, Londonderry, Ireland and that his parents were George MOORE and Eliza LOWRY. I and my collaborators are particularly interested in details of his siblings if any.

As usual, I'm lost. :-[ What is the actual source evidence? That George Moore and Eliza Lowry and children were in Newtown Limavady is clear, but what points to Charles being a son, eg. is there a marriage record reference or a letter or family bible?

Adelaide marrying in 1893.

Adelaide's marriage states that she was the sixth daughter !
Also, that she married in her brother's house in Belfast !

There are court cases of George L Moore Solicitor of Belfast, representing the estate of George Moore of Limavady.
I suppose you could draw a sketch conclusion that this is the brother of Adelaide in the 1893 marriage reference.

This isn't very clear BUT, Yes, George L Moore the solicitor was the son of George Moore the draper !

George Moore ~ Commissioner for Avidavits, also laid the foundation stone on the new Wesleyan Church in Limavady in 1876.

My calculations would indicate that the 1851 birth is George L Moore.
His 1901 census gave his birthdate as 1851.
Great work folks.

Most likely Jack !
Are you related to the family ?

Hello Tara,
I have married into the Shannon clan from the Limavady Londonderry part of the world.
William K. Shannon married for the second time to Mary Moore who was born in Londonderry in 1809.
William K Shannon and some of his family settled in South Australia and spread all over the Great Southern Land. Our efforts to trace this line back to the Scottish roots have stalled somewhat.
So it is natural to look at the families attached to the Shannons like - Moore, Hopkins, Moody, Mahood, Haslett, Wilson, Galt/Gault, Cochran/e etc.
I have followed this thread with great interest and thank you and the other for digging up these facts.
Do you have a Moore family connection?
Cheers

Hi Jack,
No I've no connection to the Moores ~ I just like helping folks find their Irish roots ;D
Pre 1864 (civil registration) in Ireland is SOOOO hard but more and more records are being released all the time so it's a matter of being patient, diligent OH and having VERY deep pockets as this hobby sure is expensive ;D ;D ;D

Hi Jack,
I am related to the Hasletts and the Murrells who were connected to the Shannons of Limavady. The following is from some research by The Rev Dr. T.H. Mullen, a Presbyterian Minister who was brought up in Limavady. Info in brackets is my input. I hope it helps.
" SHANNON. William Shannon had a hearth in Derrybeg in the 1660s (info probably taken from the Hearth Tax Rolls of 1666). In 1692 George Phillips (primary landowner of the Limavady estate) leased half of Derrybeg ( an area just NE of Limavady) to John Shannon at £8 per year and three couples of fat hens every Xmas, the land to be enclosed and fenced off. John Shannon conveyed the lands to his son James in 1720 and he in turn devised them by will to his son James who in turn devised half his lands to his son William in in 1818. The farm eventually came down to Douglas Shannon who sold it to ian Grant. William Shannon, formally of Derrybeg, died in Philadelphia on 29 July 1852. James Kelly Shannon of Cambusdoon, S. Australia, second son of the late D. Shannon Yatara, formally of Derrybeg, married Christina Scottof Paddy's Plains in 1881. H. M. Shannon opened a draper business in Ballymena (Co. Antrim) called the Emporium about 1853. Family is related by marriage to Moodys of Coleraine, Hopkins of Bolea, Hasletts and Murrells." ( info was taken from various douments in the Public Record Office Northern Ireland PRONI.)

Hello Tara and Kingerswill,
again thanks for your input.
Sadly my pockets are not very deep [so my friends say!] so one has to be creative in researching thru mediums such as this.
It is no secret that because of the constant upheval/fighting/destruction over the 400 years that makes our job as guardians of the family tree's difficult and frustrating.
Any clues/facts are helpful.
Keep up the good work.
cheers

As I have not had a chance to digest all of the information posted, I may post later with some questions. :D
