Hi can someone help!
I seem to have quite a few relatives that died in Buxted or Uckfield in the year 1840 and was just wondering if anyone knew if anything dramatic happened that year to cause the deaths or if its just a coincidence!
Thanks

Many diseases were endemic in the 19th century, and an outbreak in a community would not be unusual. Poor living conditions would also help diseases to spread.

Perhaps this article from Victorian Web may help you get a feel for what it was like back then?
