Hoping someone can help with a lookup favour?
Am searching for the burial record and/or monumental inscription for a John Rogers MORGAN, Royal Engineers who died in 1908 on a parade ground in the Cork area, maybe Crosshaven - I have one record of him being stationed at Fort William, but I can't find a fort of this name on maps, and only either Camden /Meagher or Templebreedy would seem to fit location-wise.
Can anyone help?

Could the reference to Fort William refer to the one in Scotland? There was a fort and military garrison there from Jacobite times.

No, it's definitely not the one in Scotland...I have a copy of an Irish DC

There is Camden Fort overlooking the entrance of Cork Harbour near Crosshaven

Not sure where the name "Fort William" would apply... (it was rebuilt in the Williamite Wars but never heard the name applied)
Camden Fort was renamed Fort Meagher in the late 1930's after the Young Irelander.
So now called Camden Fort Meagher.
It is an extraordinary structure and well worth a visit. Local voluntaries have put a lot of work into restoring it and if your relative was buried near here they will no doubt do their best to help. There are ph no.s and emails on the website. A cursory look on line didn't show an attached graveyard and I didn't see one on a recent visit. but there surely must be?

Gosh a long way from Crosshaven then...I imagined it would be one of the forts overlooking/guarding the entrance to Cobh/Cork harbour area....

Where does the death certificate give as place of death? and is there a different address listed for his residence?
-
Am actually heading down there now. Will have a look and see if I can find out anything. The fort is only open Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays 12-5pm, also closing for season on Sept 13.

Spoke to volunteers in Camden Fort Meagher. Advised no military graveyards in Cork Harbour area but CWG headstones in a number of local graveyards. Usually soldier would be buried in local graveyard by his unit as it would cost family considerable amount to have remains returned to homeplace for burial. Family may have attended burial (depends on family circumstances and where they live etc) Nearest graveyard is Templebreedy so I drove over the road to there and had a look. Graveyard is old with a lot of old headstones with undecipherable inscriptions. Found a grave for Srgt Major Morgan R.E. died 29 September 1908. Is this your relative? The inscription is roughly as follows: In memory of Srgt Major Morgan R.E. (next couple of words unreadable) Crosshaven. 29th September 1908. Rest unreadable.
Have taken some photos just to show there is a headstone and it's location in relation to ruins of church but inscription will be unreadable.
Hope this is of benefit to you. :)
