Post by: Topham26 on Tuesday 25 August 15 20:19 BST (UK)
Hello,

Does anyone know what the premises 2 Woodside Street, Middlesbrough was used for in 1954.  A relative was down as residing there but actually died in December in hospital.

There was some 40 plus people living there all male.

Many thanks,
Ann

Hi Ann

I posted on a memory of Middlesbrough fb page to see if anyone new what was there and a lady's husband late wife lived at number 22 and he said there was a big electrical garage on the corner called Flory's that was the only large building. The rest were all small houses. Hope this helps?

Amended! another person also said that on the 1911 a man and women and also 6 females living there as well as the family and 3 of them are from Sweden and 3 are from Norway where down as living at number 2 he researched the street because his great grandfather lived at number 14.

And another person said "I was born in number 10 in 1955. There were no houses there I remember. There was a garage which became the VW specialist.
The corner of Woodside and Montague street on the church side was a big house which was demolished."

I know that's not much to go on but hope it helps. The same person from 1955 also sent me this map view and said where the oo in Woodside was number 2 and it was a large house.

Just asked my mother. My father grew up at no. 8. She said it had something to do with the post office. Possibly a sorting office.

Hi both, thank you the replies.  As Paula said on MoM the information regarding our relatives residence/address, it was in the probate record and the London Gazette.  The list of names was from the Electoral role 1954.  We were curious as to what this house was used for??? Obviously it must have been some kind of lodging house or similar or maybe something to do with seamen.  Though our relative was not a seaman and he was retired.

Many thanks
Ann
