Haven't looked at census information online, in fact a very long time, and I am sure there was the census government site where you could put your information in and using a bit of guesswork you could find the person you were looking for. I have gone into the site which I thought I used to use and it brings me to findmypast. Anyone help with locating this site or is it now all findmypast :(

Is it this one you were thinking of?

I think Joyce was thinking of 1911census.co.uk?
That site was always owned by BrightSolid - owners of FindMyPast.

No it wasn't that one, it was the government one ie .gov was in the website address. You could also used your £5 voucher on the site to look at in the beginning just 1901 and then of course once more censuses came out you could look at those on the sit .

Yes Lostris thank you, that was the one, you could easily fathom out if you had found the person you were looking for by a bit of 'giggery pokery' entering place of birth, age, other household members.
Does anyone know if this can be done on any other sites?

That looks like what has happened, it is now passed to Findmypast. This is a shame as it was a useful tool to find out other members of the household first. Groom, thank you, I tried the link you gave, but it doesn't give you the option as I have mentioned above to find other household members.
