I'm looking for more information on my 2nd great grandad. According to the 1881 England census he was born about 1850, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire, a bucket maker and lived with his wife Betsy and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Brooks. He married Betsy Brooks in 1872. I can't find a definite birth record of him and I cannot find any death record at all. I'm assuming he died around 1892. On the 1901 and 1911 census, Betsy is listed as a widow and in the 1901 census lists 20 years of marriage. They had one son, George Harry Dunn, born around 1884. I've found quite a bit on Betsy but nothing on Edwin. In the 1891 census, Betsy is listed as married but living with with her mother as her home maker. I don't know where George went at this time but there is a George H Dunn living with another family. It could be him. If anyone can help me out, that would be great!

Hello,
Did they marry as Edwin Dunn and Betsy Brooks with those spellings? I can't see them :-\
Also, the years of marriage - 20 yrs - doesn't match with the year you have ???

On ancestry they are listed as Edwin Dunn and Betsy Brooks. They married in 1872. I'm thinking he died around 1892 since Betsy was listed as "married" in the 1891 census and then in 1901 listed as "widowed" and had been married for 20 years. He could have died anywhere between 1891 and 1901. I'm more baffled that I can't find anything listing his death.

Thanks- got them now and understand the explanation.

Probate for Elizabeth 1892 is as
Betsy Dunn (wife of Edwin Dunn)
-
It looks as though you will have to purchase the marriage certificate to see if there is a father's name for Edwin.

Hi everyone,
This is long overdue but I've finally found some information.\
I ordered Edwin Dunn and Betsy Brooks' marriage certificate. Edwin's father was Elijah Dunn. Betsy's father was Samuel Brooks.
I've recently found on another site more information on Edwin's family. The sources come from the 1861 Census.
Elijah Dunn b. about 1819 Stafford - occupation listed as Iron Labouror - d. about 1869 Worcestershire
married to Ann Westwood May 13, 1845 in Clent, Worcester
Ann Westwood b. about 1822 Lye, Worcester - occupation is listed as Nailor - d. unknown
Edwin had several siblings:
- Elizabeth b. 1846 or 1847
- Elias Timothy b. 1848
- Ann b. 1854
- Elijah b. 1856
- Matilda b. 1858
- Rowland b. 1860
I still haven't been able to find anything on Edwin's death. On the 1871 Census he's listed as a Bucket Maker but on his son's marriage certificate he's listed as a Master Iron Worker and not listed as deceased (1915). It might have been overlooked but I'm not sure if they would have overlooked something like that. Maybe it didn't matter.
