Post by: Mad mack2 on Sunday 16 August 15 23:43 BST (UK)
Thank you once again!

Now here is another that possibly someone can assist with!
All I can see is a Star on her Funnel and think (I say think ) the name may be somethimg like Majestic cant see any name on her though, this name was given to me by someone who is not too sure either! It could have three letters before her name again possibly A D Z  ???
looking at her and that star (my eyes are not that good) is there a face of a person on that Funnel as well??????
Thanks to all.

Some of those big cranes  look like the type  which  carry containers at a Container Port.

Any idea of the year  of the photograph?

Your eyes must be better than mine, because I can't see a name at all! Where can you see these letters?

If you can read "Majestic"     can you also read the name of a Port   underneath  the Ships name, please?

I can't pick out any name but for what it's worth I'd guess that the star on the funnel is red as is the coloured stripe across the top of the funnel.  this suggests Soviet era Russian or maybe Polish.  Just by the way, they don't look like container cranes to me.  Any idea of a date?  Even though I can't pick out a name Majestic doesn't sound very likely.

The Crane by the bows, to the right of the photo  looks like  the type  of  Container  lifting crane   such as at Liverpool, Seaforth  container terminal.

I found this Photo whilst searching and although its not exactly the same its damn near pretty close as far as the Number of Cranes there! So you could well be correct in suggesting Liverpool! Had many a good Scouse friend in my days at Sea!
They were always so friendly ,but beware those who took a disliking to you! LOL :)

It appears to Be Russian but more likely Republic of China. It's a red star and appears to have the image of Stalin or Mao under the star. Any way I sent the picture to my unce a retired Naval Officer (hopefully he can get you an answer), the second after his brother who is deceased and would be able to get the answer.

Any idea how old the photo is?   Or any idea which port it is?

Or even  what sort of cargo it would be carrying, such as Grain or Timber?    Or scrap metal?

It doesn't look very "majestic"   though does it?

I think the White Star line had a ship called Majestic  way back in the 1910s, but that would have been  a passenger  liner.

To recap:   The crane near the bows of the ship, on the right of the photo  looks to me  very similar to the type of gantry crane  which lifts containers (  If you know the Channel 4  video of a container port, think of those cranes)      So The photo was taken in a dock with modern facilities.

The funnel  should be a big help in identifying the line that owns the ship.

Yes indeed I have been searching for quite some time on both points, the Funnel seems to be eluding me though,i cannot find any line that has the Star and the face on it.
There are other lines of course with Stars on the Funnel, but thus far Zilch!
The other point you make about the Port is also a good one and that too I have been looking into, again with no luck,
Gees this is hard!
Oh well lets see if anyone else may come up with some good ideas!
Thanks again

Well after a lot of help from this and other sites I think that this Ship has finally been found!
Although you cannot see the face on the Funnel, possibly because it was only on her for a short while, but the Red Star is there, and the forward Derricks are the same!
The Funnel shape too is spot on!
Thanks all for the assistance here!
