Could be a Cyrillic D, which would make the P an R

Don't know a Redo word though which says more of my Russian vocab rather than whether the word exists

In the same place that you found that  name, did you also find its Port of Registration,  such as Gdansk, Murmansk,  Alexandria, Liverpool etc?

Or   do you know which flag she flies?

Could the name translate as "Peter"

Interestingly, there is a REDO, a chemical carrier, but it looks to be a different ship.  :-\

That ship looks more like a Trawler.

There is a flag, but with no wind blowing  it is hanging limp.      ;D

Too large for a Trawler me thinks, and the Decks are not made for Fish dropping !
More either General Cargo or Coaster,or some kind of Chemical Carrier!????
Just my thoughts ! again Grrrrrr! Its driving me nuts! ???

MY OH, who knows a bit about Cyrillic languages, says it's REDO and might be Bulgarian.  The name REDO can be found in Bulgaria.

Despite the apparent joining bar across the bottom of the "mystery" letter,I wonder if it is a form of "N",making it PENO.
It may be total coincidence but there is a shipping company(Chinese?) of that name, and "googling" for
images, the first that comes up is here(maybe the colours are the company livery!)

What date do you think the photo as taken?

No doubt in my mind that it's in the Cyrillic alpahabet, and should be transliterated "REDO".

I've also found another picture of her at
http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1554822

More info can be found by searching for her by name, or with the identification number IMO 5424990. It seems she typically plies around the Baltic, and round Norway to Murmansk, so the location of the photo seems likely to be in that area.

Hi,

The ship is the REDO, a Russian flagged Asphalt/Bitumen carrier, built 1963.  The IMO is 5424990.

There is an image of this ship at www.photoship.co.uk showing her as REDO-01 (the 01 refers to first ship image with this name). It appears to show the ship with a Finnish flag and the letters FES in white on a blue funnel.
