Margaret Grogan is my maternal great-grandmother. From US Census reports her date of birth ranges from 1838-1841. One report states July 1838 specifically. Through Rootsireland I have found a number of Margaret Grogans. One of these shows Margaret (born 1838) and her brother, Thomas (born 1828). The US Census report of 1860 has a Margaret Grogan living with (I think) her brother, Thomas. According to US Census reports, Margaret immigrated to New York, USA in 1848. There are several Margaret Grogans listed on ships manifests of the Irish Famine immigration ships. The next reference I can find on Margaret has her married to Michael Crannon and living in Hackettstown, New Jersey. She died there in 1911 at age 70 according to the headstone which I viewed at the cemetery. Thus the discrepancy in date of birth. Cannot find marriage certificate. She had 13 children, one of whom, Annie Crannon, is my grandmother. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi pegrace
I see you used the 'report to moderator' button. I'm unsure which date you want to change.

From US Census reports her date of birth ranges from 1828-1831. One report states July 1828 specifically.
She was 42 in the 1880 census (with a 20 year old daughter which suggests a marriage prior to 1860); 51 in 1900 ( born July 1838); and 65 in the 1910 census. So I don't think your Margaret Grogan born 1828 can be the right one.

Do you have Margaret's death certificate? If not, it might be worth obtaining, as it might have her parents' names.

Thanks for the idea about trying to get Margaret's death certificate. I hadn't thought of that. I'll give it a try!
