Title: Looking for Rose E E Collis
Post by: yscollis on Tuesday 04 August 15 21:44 BST (UK)
Can anyone help - I am looking for the whereabouts of Rose Elizabeth Eileen Collis. She was born in Epsom in 1906 and was known to have lived there until at least 1915, she then seemed to disappear until turning up in Bognor Sussex in 1927. if anyone can shed any light on where she was between 1915 and 1927 it would be absolutely wonderful.

I can see her baptism in Epson in 1906, but not her birth.

Have you got that record?

When she 're-appeared' in 1927, was she married, and what was her occupation?

By disappeared do you mean that people at the time didn't know where she was? Is there any reason to think she wasn't with her parents in Epsom?

It would be surprising if she had left home in 1915 aged about 9.  Was there a family upheaval at that time?

The  address given  on   Her  fathers Probate   is      very close to  1911  address ,   and  from   his occupation  ,   it   doesn't seem  as  if  Rose  was  sent away to   boarding  school  !

Parents' marriage was Dec qtr 1904 Croydon.

Henry Joseph A E Colliss
Mary Eliza Milsom

Their last child appears to be Henry F T Collis mmn Milsom, born & died Epsom 1914.

I    did notice  that  her mothers name  on Baptism  is  Mary Elizabeth,     but  Henrys  probate gives the  widows name  as Edith Mary   maybe there was a separation    and  Rose went with  Mum ??

A wife Edith first appears with a Henry Collis at 6 Nonsuch Cottages, Epsom in the 1924 electoral roll.

Henry was at that address (as Harry) from 1921, but without a wife's name listed until Edith's first appearance in 1924.

Perhaps they married as Henry E Collis and Edith Knowles, Sep qtr 1920 Epsom?

Not at all sure these are the right people.

Better for yscollis to come back & tell us what is known of the family after 1911, I think.

Did you  get a  PM  from Yvonne (yscollis) ?      The marriage  in 1904   Croydon  is the  correct one ,  Rose's mother  died  in 1914 ,    and they   moved  in with  Emma Collis  ( Henrys mother,  but   she  died ,   Henry  went  off to  war  ,  and Rose' disappeared'    till  marriage  in 1927  She   didn't return to  her  father  after the war   or stay with him  with his second wife  Edith .   So  you were correct  in  the  'upheaval'  theory

I  suspect that  as  she was  a   child   someone   either  'took  her  in' ,   or  the  authorities  sent her to  a  home   till she was  older   then  she  probably went into  service
