William DAvies is my 3xGGfather. He was born in 1793 in the parish of Llangeler. He worked as a weaver and on the 1841 census lived at Cwrt with his wife Ann born in Henlan, Cardiganshire
And children, John, Thomas, Mary (my 2xGGma), David, Henry, James, and William. By 1851 they had moved to Tygwehydd, Llangeler and Mary was now 23 and a manufacturer of woollen stuffs, she lived with her parents and Henry aged 15 now a weaver and Evan aged 8.
Can anyone guide me as to where these two addresses Cwrt and Tygwehydd are or were.
Also I have reached a bit if a brick wall in going back further than William and Ann.
Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Hi vik, I'm no expert on this area but many years ago I lived in Pontweli which is a couple of miles away from Llangeler. I wonder if the two homes are/were actually in the village of Pentrecwrt which is close to Llangeler and would probably be in that parish. There were many Mills in that area are one time - I think there may still be one working mill. I'll keep looking!

Have you got William and Ann's marriage? There are 2 possibles that I can see in Llangeler parish - 1820 and 1822 in both cases its Ann Davies!

Hi Gwen,
Thanks for replying. It could well be Pentre Cwrt would Mary who married David Thomas put Llangeller as place of birth in a later census! I guess if it's in the parish she would. One of my cousins said that the Jones side of my family came from Pentre Cwrt so there is a connection to the area. I knew that weaving was centred around that part.
I did find a record of their marriage, which gave Ann's maiden name as Davies, but have lost it in a mound of paperwork. I cannot remember the year. The firstborn was John born in 1823, it would only be a guess as to which one, unless it mentions the bride's birthplace of Hennlan, Cardiganshire.

I have gone a little bit further thanks to Gwen, and the marriage between Ann Davies and William Davies was at Henllan on 27 Dec 1817. William was a widower. Onward and upward. Now I need to find WIlliam's birth, or see whether the original records give more information about his father.
Any help with this is most appreciated. I am finding it very difficult.

Where did you find that marriage Vik?

I found it in Dyfed marriages. I need to get it verified as it only gave their names and places they were from but as it listed William from Llangeler and Ann from Henllan it is a fairly good chance it is them, I will have to get sight of the original or an exact copy of it as I know from census their years of birth.

I've viewed the image for this marriage record and it doesn't give any family details I'm afraid. I a e mail it to you if you'd like a copy - PM me your e mail address.
