Hi. There is a place called West Curthwaite (found it by reading the entry as West Curt.... and googling that bit.) The entry you can't read may be an abbreviation of that?

That's what it seems to say for him on the 1851 census :-\ (see HO 107 / 2440 / 229 / 14 )

Bearing in mind that the 1851 says West Ward - here's the place of that name http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/CUL/Westward/
Looks like Curthwaite is in Westward parish.
