Hi, Could anyone please give me a 1871 Census lookup for a George Spring born about 1812, a seaman born in Devenport but on the 81 census was a retired naval pensioner living Toxteth Park, Lancashire, should have a wife Amalia or Amelia, George is a widow on the 81 census. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Sal And Cath, That does look like them, but was wondering why he had a couple of children on the 81 census with the same name, there was however one of the other children born at Millbrook. Thanks both for your trouble.

Sarah A. born Millbrook, is his daughter in law on the 1881 census, so maybe the children George A, Amelia A and Leonard are actually his grandchildren, (Sarahs children).....I see Amelia died in 1876, so certainly the two youngest cant be George's, although William and George A could by dates...... confusing as they're all down as sons/daughters on the 81 census..... did she marry the son George A and then they named their own son George A?....

Catherine

Hi Cath, Thanks for that it does appear that is a very good explanation it was William James Lean Spring born on 6th July 1874 who was my main source of interest, he married a relative a Beatrice Mary HELE at Millbrook on the 9th March, 1898,(that part is right) it was when I was looking for his father and mother when I struck this dilemma, It appeared to me to be George Spring born 22/03/ 1812, Devenport Married Amalia HAMMOND at Maker in Cornwall on 12/10/1835 was his father and mother, but now I am not so sure, because Amalia or Amelia would have been too old to have a child in 1874. It now looks like he may of been the son of another George Spring the son of the one born 1812. Very confusing. I got this info from IGI batch No. 782930. Anyway thanks a lot for your trouble.

This is the Sarah A you have on 1881 census, if you want her tracing on the earlier censuses, 1861/71 let me know

Hi Cath, Thanks a lot for that, I think you are right on the mark, much appreciated, ..........PHIL.

Hi Phil,
Heres Sarah Lean on the 1861 census -
RG9/1351 Folio 17 Page 30
Maiden Well, Portland, Dorset
Sarah Ann Kingcombe married 25 Dressmaker Chester
Sarah Ann Lean daughter 7 Millbrook Cornwall
She's more difficult to trace on the 1871 census and this is the closest match. It looks like shes taken on her stepfathers name and all the places of birth have been put down as Revelstoke (her mums age is wrong too :-\ -
RG10/2105 Folio 42 Page 10
Revelstoke, Devon
Henry ..llis Kingcombe 56 Fisherman Revelstoke
Sarah 57
Charles 21 Sailor
Sarah 17
Archibald William 14
(Sarahs age is right, right name for mum, surname Kingcombe right...... )
Marriage - Henry Ells? Kingcombe to Sarah Perring?? Kingcombe? December 1838 Stoke Damarel Devon Vol 9 Page 540

How did you get on with the Kingcombe connection ? I have a John Kingcombe and Thomasine Kingcombe in my Tree who came from Revelstoke Devon. Any connection ? There is also a Crocker that married into the line as well, they were from the Revelstoke/Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers area as well.

I noticed on one of the replies that you have a connection with the "kingcombe" family are you researching this family. If so, we could share some information.

Hi Bishen Bertie, I am not researching the Kingcome family, unless they have Hele, Penrose, Norgate, in the family!
Many thanks.........PHIL
