Hi,
Just downloaded what I thought was an entry relating to a marriage from Scotland's People, date 1792 from Auchtermuchty...
However...
The entry I was looking for reads:
The Sixteenth Mortified by Ebenzer Annan £1 07 shillings.
Surely this refers to the purchase of a "Mortcloth"...???
Dougie.

Entries of sums 'mortified' by bridegrooms before Marriage 1701 - 1794 in vol. 2 as from :
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/FIF/parishes/Auchtermuchty/
Still not sure what it actually means but it does exist.

Is that all that was on it..............no bride's name ???
Seems a bit of a waste of money if so :-\

Hello Dougie,
I believe it means Ebenzer gifted the sum of £1 7s (One pound, Seven shillings) for the poor of the parish when he married.
Regards, Dod.
