Hi,
Any way to trace Historic Motorcycle number plates please?
Leanne

Any state?
Any range of years?

You could try your local Motor Registry.
They keep a track of any plate rego, but that doesn't mean one; that it is in use, or two; if it is, they won't tell you who has it. :-X

Hi,
Thanks for reply.
State NSW.

If you know the 'number' (the letters/numbers used on the plate)
it is possible to find out who has the plate .. if it is in use. You'll need a reason and provide your details .. this is usually to track someone after a hit and run incident.
if it is out of use .. then I don't know .. contact them and find out? You'll need to provide ALL the details .. if you don't know them then there would be too many responses.
If the request is unusual enough someone may see it as a challenge. Good Luck

Do note: "Historic Plates' are a form of registering old vehicles that only get used for club events (and going to the mechanic or tuning up ;) ) .. you might be best off not using that term as it may lead to confusion.

I can't seem to find any lists for NSW, but in South Australia in the 1920s the registration numbers, the names of the owners and the kind of vehicle were listed in the paper. Using Trove Newspapers I have found several registrations for various vehicles owned by family members. This included motor cycles.

Hi,
Thankyou all for valuable insight and ideas,
I will complete this request for now and follow some of the suggestions given here.
Also as per earlier suggestion, instead of enquiring as to ''Historic'' plates, what term should I use please?

I don't know why you cannot contact the Local RMS or Roads and Maritime Services. They have an enquiry form?

"I am looking for the history of my family (or?) member Mr John Doe regarding their use of a vehicle make xxx model yyyy between 1905 and 1930, the registration plate might be ERR 98. Would there be a record of this? If so could I obtain a copy of it?
My name is Mr Joe Doe NSW licence number 98787543, the above person is my GG uncle."
The plate would not have been regarded as "historic" at the time.
