G'day everyone,
I have just discovered that my g-grandfather John Williams was given a book of Bunyons Choice Works before he left for Oz in 1855 by a Mr Edward Jones.
The inscription reads:
Presented by Mr Edward Jones to John Williams as he is on the point of sailing to Van Diemans Land, 3rd April, 1855.
On the oppisite page is written :
Edward Jones, Watchmaker, Holywell
I have done Google searches but have been unable to come up with a watchmaker named Edward Jones for this year. Does anyone know where I may find info on him please?
Cheers, Tassie :)

I hate to impose Dean, but would you mind checking to see if there is a John Williams residing at 13 Tai Coed, Greenfield, Holywell for me please?
Cheers, Tassie :)
-
No problem at all, can you give me his birth year please to make the search easier
-
Tassie your John Williams left in 1855 so I do not have access to the 1851 census but others here do, so you might want to ask again. Sorry, Dean
-
Now this is where it gets a bit tricky...lol
Ok, here goes:
1851 census.............. 26.......b 1825
1855 journey to Oz....28.....b 1827
1858 marries in Oz.....30....b 1828
1913 dies in Oz...........89.....b 1824
I just want to make sure the one on the 1851 census was him
Cheers, Tassie :)

Dean,
Do you know what month the 1851 census for Holywell was taken? If not, do you know where I could possibly find out please? I don't have a birthdate for him, so have been trying to narrow it down by the different dates things occured in his life from when he left Greenfield, Holywell.
Cheers, Tassie :)

Tassie,
Can not find a John Williams in the 1861 census that fits the bill, so you probably have the right 1851. Someone else will have to help with the month of the 1851 census.
Good luck,
Dean

Thanks Dean,
your a champion
Cheers, Tassie :)

This is interesting Tassie a Edward Jones married a Charlot Williams m. 1816 wonder if you Edward Jones was a cousin to John Williams? this is on familysearch site

I have no idea Dean. My John was born Ceirchiog, Anglesey.
I did find an Owen Williams born Ceirchiog, Anglesey, on the 1851 census for Greenfield was well when I was in Wales last year.
Owen was 38 a bricklayer, living at 122 Ravenyard. He was married to Harriet 36 born Denbigh ( something) looked like C...drudion.
All I have to go on with John is he was living with his widowed mother Ann, 65, pauper..b Penlan, Anglesey. If I had a fathers name, I'd be in clover.
Going on for 3am here so better get some zzzzz's
Cheers, Tassie :)
