Title: Louis John Michel married 1844 Victoria and died 1904 Melbourne
Post by: kerryb on Wednesday 15 July 15 15:40 BST (UK)
Hi

Another Michel details to check from Ancestry trees please.

Louis John married Alicia Bell on 21 October 1844 at St James Old Cathedral, Victoria, Australia

and he died 24 September 1904 at Carlton North, Melbourne, Australia.  He seems to appear in the Australian Dictionary of Biography as a gold discover.  I bet he felt pleased with himself, a number of his brothers back home were Tin workers!

I really appreciate this.

Thanks

Kerryb :)

Thank you cupolife, I've been reading the will, which is very interesting, it appears Louis had three granddaughters all called Alicia, as well as his wife and daughter.  Must have been confusing at Christmas!

Thank you Cando, very interesting.  Especially that it says mother Elizabeth Willis, the trees I have seen have her as Elizabeth Watts which I can find no record of.  I shall go and try Willis and see what comes up.

Information on death certificates only as good as the knowledge of the informant.  Pity he married before civil registration in Victoria.  I treat all online trees with caution as so many simply copy and paste other's research.  I haven't looked at any trees as I'm having problems with a very, very slow internet today.

Cheers

What a nice looking man!

You are quite right about trees which is why I am going through the information and checking it.  Some say Watts and some say Willis, which I cannot find any links to at all.  I imagine one tree saw Willis on that record and copied and so others copy and so on and so on.

I have his baptism record, 1825 in Surrey.  Unfortunately for the baptisms, there is a gap in the right area between his early siblings and the brother born before him in the records available online.  Typical!  So I am checking out what records I can online and so far can agree that all the children bar one did exist.  I think I may have found a late one that nobody else has.  Hmmmm

Headstone of Louis John & Alicia Michel. My Great Great Great Grandparents. 541 Lygon St North carlton. now a school yard. Alicia was the family name from the Bell Family, thats why there are a few of them. Caroline & Elizabeth are family names from the Michel side, perhaps the Watts line.
