Title: Myra Aidley died in Arclid Workhouse in 1909
Post by: audbr on Monday 13 July 15 21:21 BST (UK)
Hi Can anybody please help?

I have a Myra Aidley who died aged 79 on 21st March 1909 at Arclid Workhouse and was buried 25th March 1909 at St Peter's church Congleton.

Her husband, William Aidley was buried on 2nd June 1900 aged 61 at St Peter's church Congleton.

In the 1891 census they were living at 1 Booth Street, Congleton and according to the census he was born at Somerford Cheshire and she was born at Stourbridge Worcestershire.

Can anybody find Myra Aidley in the 1901 census and can anybody identify where they married?

Regards
Brian

Hi Jenifer C & Jan57.

That must be her at 1 Booth Street Congleton as it is the same address she was living at in the 1891 census.
The difference is that in the 1891 census her birth place is given as Stourbridge, Worcestershire whereas in the 1901 census her birth place is given as Talke Staffordshire. I missed her in the 1901 census as as I was looking for her as born in Worcestershire.

Thanks for solving that problem the next one is to find when and where she married William Aidley

Many thanks for your help
Regards
Brian

Hi Mabel,

Many thanks for your reply. I have just managed to find them on the 1881 census. Their surname in the 1881 census is given as Adley and not Aidley
Thanks for your help

Hi Ladyhawk and Jan 57,

Thanks for your reply; unfortunately that is not the same couple

The William Audley who married Mary Pickles on 31st March 1861 died or was buried on 26th April 1865 and his wife remarried, as Mary Audley, on the 4th January 1875 to a John Wood.

Rosalina and Minnie (Anne) were the 2 children of the marriage between William Audley and Mary Pickles

Rosalina baptised 19 March 1862 daughter of William and Mary Audley - William = Silk Weaver, which matches the occupation on his marriage entry.  Entry at St James, Congleton.

Oops - if William Aidley is buried in 1900, then he is not William Audley who married Mary Pckles because she is a widow by 1871   :o

Jan 57,
I am really interested in the surname Audley, however in Cheshire the surnames Audley, Adley and Aidley appear at time to  been interchanged with each other. An then websites miss transcribe Audley as Andley; unfortunately I cannot a search method that picks up all the varients.

Thanks for your help

I've just done a search via FreeBMD, for a suitable marriage, and nothing comes up.  I just entered a forename of William, plus spouse's first name as Myra and taken it in 5-year steps from 1860 onwards - working on the assumption that William was born around 1840 - and I can't see any surnames remotely resembling Aidley/Audley etc. etc.  Yet another one of those puzzles in our research attempts  ::)
