Title: Death and Burial help
Post by: pinkteedee on Friday 10 July 15 13:16 BST (UK)
I am looking for a record of a Mary Mann died 1871 in Hackney. I am hoping she was married to Joseph Mann. Any ideas how I can find a record or grave. Thank you.

no I don't have certificate... I am hoping that it is the right Mary Mann. She is on the 1871 census and I know her husband remarried in  1879 and stated he was a widower. I am hesitating to buy certificate if this is the wrong Mary Mann.

Can you tell me if there is any way of viewing the Victoria park cemetery records?
Thanks

Is that the marriage for Joseph to Catherine Gilbert 8/12/1879 Bethnal Green ?
Going by his age born 1841 so probably the wrong burial for Mary Mann b 1825 unless she was a lot older than him ...do you know her date of birth

Hi there,
She was born in 1825 but I think her age is wrong in 1871 census. The census is correct as Joseph Mann was a China hawker. His age changed a lot!!

I think it's 'Sportsman', Margaret Street, Haggerstone.

The children are not with him in 1881. It appears he started a new family!!!!

So it is not only Mary that is missing in 1881 but the children as well  :-\  Which of them do you have after 1871

1871 has

Joseph Mann   7 St Lukes
Elizabeth Mann   5 St George (in the East)
Arthur Mann   4 Bethnal Green
John Mann           1 St George (in the east)

Arthur was descibed as Idiot  :'(

In 1881 census I have Joseph W Mann aged 4 and Rosetta Mann aged 2 both born in Bethnal Green.
This is obviously not the same Joseph as in 1871 census.

Are the children from the second marriage the line you are following.

I wasn't aware there had been children from first marriage. my grandmother was a child from his second marriage. So I am now intrigued about the first family of children, did he just abandon them??

I was wondering whether Mary was still alive and was elsewhere with the children possibly under another surname, with a new man in her life  :-\
