Title: Hammer, Edward from Holland
Post by: KWATTON on Sunday 05 July 15 00:46 BST (UK)
Looking to see if anyone has access to Netherlands records.  My Great Great Grandfather was a miner in Broken Hill and reportedly born in 1862 and originally came from Holland at a young age.  He was a private man and never talked about his past and hence I have not been able to find any legit records.  I have since located a "missing friends" article posted is SA Police Gazette in 1909.  This appears to be too much of a coincidence but means he was born in 1867.  The article states his mother Mrs Lelie Hammer was looking for a Thgeodor Rjidus Hammer who is supposed to be employed on one of the mines in Broken Hill - Description - A native of Rotterdam (Holland) aged 42.

It would be greatly appreciated if i could get some feedback on my search

regards

Kathy

The best site for Dutch records is:
https://www.wiewaswie.nl/en/home/

That will take you to the English language pages.

I did a quick search for any Hammer, 1860-1870, in the province of Zuid-Holland (South Holland), which includes Rotterdam.

4th September 1866 birth for Jacobus Johannes Wilhelmus Hammer
Father Theodorus Roelf Hammer.
Mother Cornelia Geertruida Lelie

But then again:

10th November 1869 birth for Fredrik Hendrik Hammer
Father Theodorus Roelf Hammer
Mother Cornelia Geertruida Lelie

So this could be his parents and siblings?
Can't spot an obvious birth record for a Theodore?

EDIT: I did find this however?
14th May 1863, at Herwen en Aerdt (Rijnwaarden)
Theodorus Johannes Hammer
Father: Frederick Henderick Hammer
Mother: Henrica Catherina Lelie

But the town is very close to the German border?

it looks like Theodorus Roelf and Cornelia Geertruida had 7 children - all in Rotterdam

this tree given as being in Rotterdam - maybe you can contact the tree owner Henry Bulder for some advice ?
good luck
 :)
ADDED - Did Edward have the middle name Thomas ??...this is a tree from Broken Hill NSW stating Edward Thomas Hammer born 1862
