Title: ALICE JONES BORN 1/4/1872 -WICKLEWOOD WORKHOUSE
Post by: janir on Tuesday 30 June 15 21:06 BST (UK)
Alice Jones was my great grandmother. I know very little about her or who her parents were. Alice  was born in Wicklewood workhouse. Her mother could be Martha Jones born in Colton around1845. A Martha Jones married John Cawthorn in Wisbech Cambridgeshire in1890. On Alices birth certificate no father named but on her marriage to Christoper Heyworth in Burnley  Lancashire 15th Oct 1894 ,her father is named as Arthur Jones as labourer deceased. My research has drawn a blank on Arthur Jones
I would be grateful for any information regarding this. Thank you

I would guess she made up a fathers name when she got married which wasn't uncommon.

In 1881 there is an unmarried Martha Jones 36 born Coulton with 3 children - John 12 - George 4 - Florence E 1.

John is born Whittle Wood so could be the brother baptised with Alice that The Yokel found.

Florence E is born Wisbech.

Think you have the right marriage for Martha because in 1891 they have a Florrie Jones born Wisbech who is 11.  She could be the Florence E age 1 from 1881.

In 1901 Florence Jones 22 is down as step daughter to John Cawthorn.
There's also an Elizabeth Jones 40 step daughter born Barford Norfolk.
