Hello,
I am in America but helping my British friend with his family history. He descends from:
Alfred Cook b. ca 1880, Chichester d. ? parents: unknown. Alfred married Emma/Emily Ryan b. ca. 1882, Chichester dau. of Thomas Henry Ryan and Fanny Smithers. I believe I found their marriage record in Midhurst, Sussex - 1910.
In 1911, I found them at 29 George St., Chichester. Married for one year. I know they had their first daughter, Kate, later that year.
Because Cook is such a common name it is difficult for me to find the correct Alfred Cook. I am hoping that someone in England can help steer me in the right direction in finding Alfred parents.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
Sincerely,
Hope

Hi,
A copy of their marriage certificate should show the name and occupation of Alfred's father, which should help you to follow him on census records.
Copies of certificates cost £9.25 and can be ordered online here:
