Title: Late Uncle
Post by: forfarlass on Sunday 28 June 15 20:25 BST (UK)
My late grandfather was a merchant seaman whilst living in Scotland.  When his first wife died in 1943, we are told, he then carried on his career, became a Captain in the |Merchant Navy, married a Canadian school teacher, and had another family.  Now the problems start....lol.  We have no idea as to anything definite of his whereabouts after 1943

JOHN HUTCHISON BROWN
BORN 1905
MARRIED 1926
1ST WIFE DIED 1943
ONE CHILD - ELIZABETH
MERCHANT SEAMAN

The above all relates to Dundee Scotland

After that, we have had tales of he went to Halifax, Nova Scotia where he remarried a school teacher.   Sadly, I have no other information

Thank you in advance of any help

Hi lass,

This will be a difficult one since it is within the privacy law limits here in Canada. You can try getting the local public library to do a marriage notice lookup for him. Perpaps you want to check the Canada411 site to see if he is in the white pages (assumming he is still around.

Born 1905 - would be 110 years old - hope so but perhaps not  ;)

There is an outbound record from the UK for a John H. Brown, aged 44, in 1946, aboard the Aquitania bound for Halifax, working as a 2nd Engineer aboard the ship for the Alexandria Navigation Company. Who did he work for as a merchant seaman?

Hi    Thank you for taking the time to reply.   Any help is much appreciated.  I tried various organisations in Canada to get help  but not one, replied  :(

Anyway, I am sorry but I have no idea of whom he worked for as a merchant seaman.    I should say I do know his parents names, dates of birth, marriage and death, but of course, that may not be any help

Eileen - the record you refer to can I ask where you found it please?

Sorry, I didn't get notified of your reply.  The record is available from Ancestry.
