I started with www.familysearch.org and found an Edward Mooney and a Mary McAlister were having children in Portglenone
Margaret Christening Place: 179, PORTGLENONE, ANT, IRE Birth Date: 15 May 1865
Patrick Christening Place: 159, PORTGLENONE, ANT, IRE Birth Date: 11 Feb 1868
perhaps another child
Edward Mooney Birth Date: 16 Apr 1873 Birthplace: Antrim, Ireland
but I didn’t find a marriage entry
I also tried emerald ancestry and ancestryireland for the marriage bit I couldnt find it.
My conclusion is I dont know how to trace 179, and 159, and that either might name the church!
In 1862 from Griffiths valuation see www.askaboutireland.com, some Eight miles west of Ballymena are the townlands of CARMAGRIM[modest house ten shillings pa map ref 37e] and GORTGOLE [modest house ten shillings pa map ref 14c] in PORTGLENONE civil parish. Either there are two Edward Mooney associated with the townlands eg father and son or it’s the same person.
There are also
McAlister Patrick Gortgole Antrim Portglenone
McAlister Anne Gortgole Antrim Portglenone
McAlister John Gortgole Antrim Portglenone
McAlister Charles Gortgole Antrim Portglenone
McAlister Rose Gortgole Antrim Portglenone
McAlister Anne Killycoogan Antrim Portglenone
McAlister John Lisnagarran Antrim Portglenone
I didn’t have time to check other spelling of the McAlister
Some 37 years earlier in Portglenone, the Tithe Applotment Books recorded
McAlister., John Townland : Finkillagh Year: 1825
McAllester, Hector Townland : Drumrankin Year: 1825
McAllister, Arthur Townland : Lisnagarron Year: 1825
McAllister, Charles Townland : Gortgole Year: 1825
McAllister, Chas. Townland : Gortgole Year: 1825
McAllister, John Townland : Finkiltagh Year: 1834
Mooney, Francis Townland : Gortgole Year: 1825
Mooney, Hugh Townland : Ballynafie Year: 1825
Mooney, Laurance Townland : Gortgole Year: 1825
Mooney, Pat. Townland : Bracknamuckley Year: 1834
Mooney, Pat Townland : Gortaheron Year: 1825
Mooney, Patk. Townland : Breaknamuckly Year: 1825
Mooney, Robert Townland : Gortaheron Year: 1825
Mooney, Thomas Townland : Killycoogan Year: 1825
Mooney, Thos. Townland : Ballynafie Year: 1825
Mooney, Thos. Townland : Killycoogan Year: 1825
Moony, Samuel Townland : Gortaheron Year: 1825
so its interesting to note McAllister and Mooneys were living within the same townland
of GORTGOLE, and other nearby townlands
The church records depending upon their religion included fro PRONI online churchs guide

The two above records are from extracted birth registrations and the numbers are merely the page numbers in the register (Portglenone is the registration sub-district)- nothing to do with church records.

Hello, I am also trying to find a Mooney in this area, Carmagrim. It is Margaret Mooney who married a John Craig. John was born around 1817. I cannot find a record of the marriage but I know that their first child was born in 1836 so perhaps the date was around 1835. I assume this marriage record would not exist as it would be one of those destroyed.
I would like to find out who Margaret's parents were. I am still looking for John's parents and siblings, but with so many Craig's in the Portglenone and Ahoghill area it is proving difficult to know who is related to who!

Civil registration of non-Catholic marriages began in 1845 and Catholic marriages from 1864. For earlier dates you need to see if church records survive- not all do and of those that do not all are online. Any idea of their religion?
-
Thanks Aghadowey, helpful as always. I know John Craig was Presbyterian, the children were baptised at the 1st Presbyterian Church inAhoghill.
-
Unfortunately 1st Ahoghill records start 1841 which is too early for the marriage- have you checked nearby churches? Ahoghill C.O.I. marriages start 1811.

Thanks, I will have a look through this afternoon.Thank you for all of your help.
