This is a very long shot - trying the find any decendants of Abraham and Esther Lane (Esther was my great grand father's sister) Abraham born 1839 in Monmouthshire, Wales, United Kingdom and died 1900 in Orange County Esther born c1834 Monmouthshire and died 1894 The Royal Hotel Lucknow - their children Charles Dixon Lane born 1863 in Pontypool Wales and died 1943 in Orange County and Alfred Dixon Lane born 1867 in Monmouthshire and died 1936 in Lucknow - the family emigrated to Australia about the middle of 1880s - any help would be great - thanks jennie

NSW Electoral Roll 1903 CANOBOLAS, polling at Lucknow
Alfred Dixon LANE, of Lucknow, barman
NO others with that surname enrolled for that polling place.
At various NSW State Records Office online indexes:
There's an Alfred LANE, aged 18, a passenger on the Chimborazo, arriving Sydney in 1885.
There's an Alfred Dixon LANE deceased estates file with date of death 9 April 1936.
There's also a Charles Dixon LANE deceased estates file with date of death 7 July 1943
There can be interesting papers in those files, sometimes there's even BDM certificates.

Hello
Here's Alfred Dixon Lane's death Orange NSW 1936
Charles Dixon Lane 1943 Orange NSW
No sign of older brother George on the deaths there so perhaps he didn't go with them or died before that.
The last Electeral roll for Alfred is 1933 at 47 Prince St hotel keeper Orange
No sign of anyone with him on there.
Charles Dixon Lane Lewis Ponds post master 1943 Orange
Again no sign of a wife or children.
There is a Dixon Clive Lane born 1912 and died 2000 in Orange .He married a Ellen May Meehan in Mayfield in 1936.
I can't find a birth but with that name it's a bit surprising if he's not related.
Sorry still typing when other person posted.

Hi Ciderdrinker - many thanks for all your help - had second thoughts about 'George' - he is from Esther's first marriage - George Dixon Hawkins born in 1858 in Monmouthshire Wales England and died 1907 in Monmouthshire Wales England - so if he did go with the family to Australia, he at sometime went back home - not sure if this helps you - thanks again - jennie
