Title: Maud Ward
Post by: pennyannesherratt on Wednesday 24 June 15 19:56 BST (UK)
Well I received my Grandmothers birth certificate today, as my Great Grandmothers name was a mystery, and now after five hours of searching I have hit a brick wall again I can't find a birth or marriage, on the 1901 census she's called Emily, on the 1911 she's called Maud.

The birth certificate of my Grandmother Alice May Andrews says her Father is Philip Griffith Andrews(already knew this by the census) and her Mother is Maud Ward.

By the census it says Maud Ward was born 1870 Dover Kent.  ::) ???

if she's the same person as Phillip's wife on 1891 (also b c1870, but listed as in Birmingham)  she's also known as Emma M

still can't see a marriage!

Hi Pennyannesherratt,

This on FreeBMD is probably your great grandmother's birth index record:

Ward, Emma Maud; March Qtr 1869; Elham Registration District, Kent; Volume 2a Page 939.

Elham is in the right area as regards being born in Dover.

Not seeing a marriage as yet either!

Hope the birth record helps anyway!

Kind regards

David

Hi Pennyannesherratt,

This is the only birth index record that I can find for a Philip Griffith Andrews on FreeBMD:

Andrews, Philip Griffith; Dec Qtr 1859; Farnham Registratin District; Vol 2a Page 69.

Farnham is on the Hampshire, Surrey, Sussex border.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David

Hi Pennyannesherratt,

This looks like Emma Maud Ward & family in 1881 on familysearch: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XQHR-NQH

Father Edward an upholsterer by trade. A birthplace of Hythe would fit in with registration district of Elham for Emma's birth index record & also being near Dover.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

David
