Hi,

I've managed to find quite a bit out on your Nappers. It seems that many of the children never married as I found their death record index as Napper.

Note that I've transcribed Ann/Anne Nappers name as they appear on various documents as I've done with his occupation. I've had a look at 1930 register of electors which came into force October 1930 so I assume the survey would have been done that summer.

The info I have is too much for one posting so I'll divide post up...

Ray
-----

Charles Napper

Baptised May 16 1841 in Okewood Capel, Ockley, Surrey. He was the son of John Napper, a farmer, and Ann.
Passed away February 24 1926, and buried in Pyrford churchyard.

Mary Ann

Mary Ann and Charles were married in London, so I do not have the marriage records at the Surrey office. I suggest you order the marriage certificate online. You’ll need to quote Mile End district, December 1862 quarter, Volume 1c, page 1101.
She ‘entered into rest’ as the gravestone says, on April 6 1929. Buried along with husband in Pyrford churchyard.

Grace Ellen

Note that it is Grace Ellen and not Ellen Grace.
Baptised September 27 1863, daughter of Charles and Mary Anne, shopkeeper.
Alfred Charles Napper and Grace Napper were the two eligible voters residing at “Dordrecht”, Aviary Road, Pyrford in the summer of 1930.
Buried in Pyrford churchyard along with her sister Florence. Dated November 14 1940. Died after a long illness.
Death info:- December 1940 quarter, Surrey N.W., Volume 2a, Page 895. She was 77.
Don’t order certificate yet as I may be able to get more information first.

Emmeline Augusta
Note correct name.

Baptised April 9 1865, daughter of Charles and Mary Anne, shopkeeper.
Emmeline Augusta  Napper, Blanche Napper, George Napper and Florence May Napper were the four eligible voters residing at “The Laurels”, Lower Pyrford  Road, Pyrford in the summer of 1930.
Buried in Pyrford churchyard along with her mother and father. Passed away March 17 1938.
Death info:- March 1938 quarter, Surrey N.W., Volume 2a, Page 486. She was 73.
Don’t order certificate yet as I may be able to get more information first.

Hello bparker - I am also researching the Napper family from Pyrford.  My great grandmother was Blanche Napper - who was the youngest  (I think) child of John Napper, b 1804 Warnham, Sussex and  Napper, born 1810, Shere, Surrey.  Looks like they had 8 children in total.

Just wondered if you had managed to go any further back than this in your searches?

Hi Sas, Great to hear from you. Glad to add Blanche to the family.  I have the Pyrford Church records . On it there is John and Anne Napper, farmer, son  Dendy Napper born May 14 1848. And Blanch Napper born Oct 12 1851. I had put a note beside Blanch wondering if she was part of John's family. There is also a Bertha Napper  born Oct 21 1858 in Pyrford  daugther of Frederick and Elizabeth Anne Greenwood of Brighton, Sussex, occ. Baker I figured this Frederick was also the son of John and Anne. Do you have any pictures of the Napper's? Were they all in the baker, grocery business?I have one picture of Charles Napper and his son's. Haven't managed to go any further back than what is posted here.

Sorry - can't be of much more help here.  I only discovered yesterday that our Nappers were one and the same through the 1841 and 1851 Census info which Joe managed to find for me:

1851 Census - Pyrford (Indexed as Nopper)
HO107/1593/Folio 358

1841-Cencus Ockley(Indexed as Happer)
HO107/1081/2-20-7

See posts on John Napper born 1804 Warnham.

I also learnt yesterday, through a very kind gentleman at Chichester Library, that John Napper's father was Dendy Napper - 1778 - 1820.  His father was a Matthew Napper (died 1801), who was the son of a Henry Napper of Cranleigh.  I have some info on Dendy Napper - if you are interested let me know.  He was a bit of a wild card apparently and spent most of his inheritance....!

I will ask my father if he has a photo of Blanche I can send.

Thanks for the info. on John. If you do send for the birth cert. for Blanche please let me know what you find out. My main interest in the Napper family is Charles and his wife Mary Ann (Parker) Napper and their children. The Daws family married into the Napper family when Louisa Daws married Edwin Napper, Charles's brother. The Daws family also married into the Parker family when Louisa's sister Ellen Daws married Thomas B. Parker.

Sas,  On rootsweb.com /~engsurry   England Surrey wills index I found the will of George Barrett 1774 listing his daughter Mrs. Ann Napper and son-in-law John Napper. There are other Napper names that were party to( neighbors and witnesses) other peoples wills in Surrey and Sussex: John Napper 1833 in Surrey, Matthew Napper 1658 in Sussex, Richard Napper Jr. 1661/2 or Rudgewick and Richard Napper in 1658. I bring this to your attention to google  Surrey and Sussex will index . You may find a gem  or at the very least a name or two that could help you.

Hi Jane welcome to rootsweb. Seems the Napper's were pretty well know in Surrey and  Sussex. I live in the U.S. I have had, as you can see by reading the posts, met and got help from a lot of good people in England. I wish you luck with John Laker Napper relatives. I sure would like to find some  living relatives of Charles Napper and Mary Ann Parker Napper.

Thanks for your reply
I have been researching the Nappers for over 20 years both direct lines and sideways. Last year I went to Pyrford and photographed all the graves etc.
I was particularly interested in the comments posted in  a reply to your postings about "the infamous" Dendy Napper  and would like to get in touch with that person . Is it you who has a photograph of Charles Napper and sons?

Have you got Charles' ancestors

Do the Daws come into your line as I have a photograph of the tombstone of Mary Ann Daws 1866 from Pyrford?

Hi everyone,

I realise this posting may have closed but I've just discovered it.  I'm researching the Napper family on behalf of a friend, and the above information will be most helpful.  Thank you everyone, for sharing it so kindly :)

I am reseaching the line where Frank Napper (1845-) married Emily White (1842-1909).  Their daughter Florence immigrated to Australia with her husband Percy Tullett in around 1915.

Also the line of Cedric C Napper born 1899, son of Percy JF Napper and Nellie.

Would anyone be interested any sharing any photos with me?

Kind regards,
Christine

Hi Sasafras,
I'm interested in this connection with the Napper's of Warnham, the names you mention Dendy, Mathew and John are all my ancestors too! I've never met anyone else who is interested in this stuff, so keen to know what else you know about them from your trip to Chichester.....

I have been down there recently and alot of the farms and properties held by John and John Laker Napper still exist, i can post photos if you are interested.....

Christine of Bathurst said
"Also the line of Cedric C Napper born 1899, son of Percy JF Napper and Nellie."

If you're still watching this Christine, Cedric was my uncle and I know the whereabouts of most of the living descendents of Percy JF and Nellie. Nellie died in the childbirth of my father.

The living descendents are in Australia (12 or so of us),  UK (1 person) and in South Africa.

Sorry for the delay in replying.  As I mentioned earlier, this isn't my family - I'm researching on behalf of a friend and have had to leave it for a while.
Do you have your tree available anywhere for public viewing?  Mine is on Ancestry.co.uk but currently on private view.  If you have access to Ancestry send me an email and I'll send you permission to view if you are interested.  It is called "McLeod Tullett May 2010".

Cheers

I am interested in any information re. Florence May Napper (1876-1937).  I believe she may have lived in 1927 at 97 St Georges Road (now Drive) Pimlico London SW1. She was the informant (FM Napper) on the death certificate of writer & social reformer Thomas D Hamilton Garside (died 21 Oct 1927 Chelsea). I would like to know how she knew him, whether she married, her occupation, etc. and whether there are any photos of them/her.
