And with a slight discrepany of age; Thomas Sandell aged 56.buried 20-Dec-1892. Cricklade St, Marys. [From transcribed records]
-
Would be interesting to get their certificates Emma, as they died so close to each other and relatively young.
-
Although there is a age discrepancy between 1891 census and the burial in 1892 of 3 years I wouldn't worry. He may have been a bit economical on the census, and the burial is what age was given by someone else, being that he is dead.

Especially as his wife predeceased him. People didn't know ages in the same way we do now and often guessed them.

I must also note that the records I quoted from are for burials at St, Sampsons Church. Cricklade. The note for St Marys is the abode of Thomas & Ann. You can see here the 2 parish's of Cricklade; http://www.crickladestmary.org.uk/parish_map.htm

Oh how sad my poor little ancestors :'(
I shall order these certificates now. Thank you so much for finding all this for me don't know how you do it all ..... Amazing
Quick question when I apply for the certificates, does that mean I put his name as Sendell on the request form?
-
Yes, the information was from Freebmd http://www.freebmd.org.uk/
Deaths Dec 1892
Sendell Thomas 56 Cricklade 5a 27
Deaths Jun 1892
Sandell Ann 54 Cricklade 5a 26
You need to quote it exactly as it says otherwise the GRO wont send the certificate. Order from them rather than a subscription site as it is cheaper. https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Thank you I shall let you know what it says when they arrive!

Hi
Thomas "Sendell" death certificate arrived today and not quite what we were expecting not sure how to add an attachment photograph but it says cause of death: accidentally fell off a wagon and was killed.
Certificate received from w.l. Nicholson Browne coroner for north wilts inquest held 20 December 1892
You think there is a way of finding anything else out about it?
Ann's certificate hasn't arrived yet
-
Under bold italic and underline symbols there's a photo symbol I press it and get img in brackets (http://) then what do I do to add the photo attachment
-
To add a photo you need to click on Attachments and other options which is just below the box where you type in your answer. However, I don't think that you can actually attach anything to this particular board as it is Lookup Requests.

Swindon Advertiser December 24th 1892;
An inquest was held at the Red Lion Inn, Cricklade before Mr. Coroner Browne & a jury, of whom Mr. Joseph Smith was chosen foreman. To enquire unto the death of Thomas Sandall, aged 56 years, who had been for many years in the employ of Mr. William Carter.
From evidence adduced, deceased went to Statton through Cirencester with a load of hay, and left an order for several casks of beer at Messrs, Cripps & Co, brewery, Returning for the same about 4.15 quite sober. It being Saturday the men were anxious to leave and consequently dispatched him as soon as possible. Instead of having any beer he was to call next time and have 1s for his trouble.
The next thing that was heard of him was that Edward Provis, a lad in the employ of Mr. H***** of Down Ampney was returning from the station about 6.20 with a milk cart and met deceased riding on shafts of a wagon. He shouted out and deceased made way for him but as he was passing witness heard a noise of something falling but thought it was caused by the wagon coming off the sidewalk which is raised about a foot from the road. Witness then went home not knowing anything of the accident which had occurred.
Shortly afterwards a man in the employ of Mr. George Cuss was taking a horse home, when at the spot mentioned his horse shied, and he, on looking, saw the deceased lying across theb road. His brow was cold and witness believed him to be dead. However, he tied his horse to a gate and removed deceased to the side of the road, and, proceeding onwards, gave an alarm at the first house he came to.
Meanwhile, the horses with the wagon had arrived at Cricklade, reaching there at about 7.0. clock. On discovering that deceased was not with wagon, some of his family went in search. Mr. Poole afterwards went with his horse & trap and brought deceased home.
Dr. Langley attended as soon as possible and found Sandall had been dead some time. The doctor informed the jury that the cause of death was concussion of the brain, and that a fall from the shafts of a wagon was likely to produce it.
Inspector Strong produced deceaseds hat which was cut through the brim.
There was nothing to lead him to suppose that foul play had been used.
The jury returned a verdict of " accidental death"

Sorry about the missing name but I smudged the ink of my writing, which is bad enough at the best of times, and I cannot remember what it was
-
With the fact that the lad was coming back from the station to Down Ampney when he met Thomas the accident was probably near Latton. I would think between Latton and the turning off of Ermin Street for Down Ampney.
[ The station mentioned was probably the Railway station at Cricklade ]

Only just seen this :o
Can't believe you found all of this I'm still amazed from over here too!
Thank you, sorry didn't see it straight away
A great article with all that detail of what happened, truly fantastic!
Thank you, how did you find this?
;D

It is the inquest has reported in the Swindon Advertiser, The Advertiser and a Gloucester paper I cannot remember, would have been the local paper. The Swindon Advertiser back issues are on film at the Swindon Library. When I was there I had a look and copied the report, hopefully with no errors.

Well this has to be the most interesting find in my family tree so far! How facinating to read all the details. So grateful you were able to find it and copy it all out for me, thank you for your time spent on this.
