Can any one please look up birth records for this lady please (yes, Alexander spent the male way). She was born Aberdeen 15 Jul 1894 and I think her father was Daniel Gordon; but her mother is elusive at the mo. TIA.

Thank you so much. Thought that there was a surname of Coutts somewhere and you all have confirmed it. I may be pushing my luck but I think there is a sister called Christine Bone b1890?
-
You're very welcome. Perhaps the death registered December 1964 - South Shields of a Daniel F Gordon - aged 70 years is a possible.

There was a daughter Margaret Penuel Coutts Gordon baptised to Margaret Penuel and Daniel Fraser Gordon in 1891 - might the probate be hers?
Given the children are split and I can;t find the parents in 1901, might there have been a death? I ask as I can find a marriage for a Daniel fraser Grodon, father John, in Jarrow in 1904
Danielem Fraser Gordon
Father: Joannis Gordon
Aliciam Riley
Father: Bernardi Riley
Marriage 6 Apr 1904, St. Bede's, Jarrow

D Gordon may be in South Shields in 1901 but described as widowed. Occupation :- 1st Mate on the Victoria.

I htnk the sister is actually Christina Bone, her first name being that of her Gordon grandmother.
There is a Christina Bone Glen, wife of Cpt Peter Glen, whose son Robert is lost in WWII when is merchant navy ship sinks.

Thanks again. I have the Sapstead link, and I had the merchant records for Daniel...I was just trying to tie him into Alice...and with your help that is now done!.
Robert Bone Glen was born 1901 and Christina Bone was born 1890....that seems a bit odd? I have her down in Harrow in 1911 still, and unmarried. Is there a marriage date for Christine and Peter Glen please??
I have tried to look on Scotlands People but can not see the record when I click on it, so have wasted all my credits ???. Obviously it doesn't work on IE or Crome....?
-
Scotlands People has the marriage of Peter Glen and Christine Bone - Rothesay - 1893 but that's all the info you get for 1 credit - don't think its worth wasting another 5 credits - since it is not the right match for your Christine.

Noticed you added this piece to your last post - Scotlands People worked fine for me with Internet Explorer. ???

You need to sign in then go to 'My Details' at the top of the page at Scotlandspeople. Scroll down to the bottom and you'll see the options for downloading images - I use the option 'direct download'.

Images you paid for are never lost at SP they are under the 'viewed images' at the top of the page - even if you have never viewed them ::)

Middle names such as the one in this example can often be the mothers maiden name.
Sometimes the grandmothers maiden name.
They can be very helpful, particularly when they are rare or unusual surnames.

Hi, the same family so I continued the same thread... Daniel Frazer Gordon had a daughter Margaret Penuel Coutts Gordon b1891. She is the sister of Gladys Alexander Gordon. I have no records for MPCG apart from the 1891 census then nothing until a death record in 1961 which implies she has married someone called Inglis? Or it could be someone else totally different also with the same MPCG name?
Can anyone find anything please?
Thanks
And the Bone theory was a redherring - the other daughter Christina B Gordon was Christina Bella Gordon!

The 1961 probate is for someone surnamed Coutts or Inglis - rather than Gordon. So not sure she is yours
This is the marriage
COUTTS, MARGARET PENUEL
INGLIS, THOMAS PATERSON
1915 644 / 3 / 781
Calton (Glasgow)
This might be her birth
COUTTS, MARGARET PENUEL
mmn JOHNSTON
1888

A bit more digging suggests this Margaret Penuel Coutts is daughter of William Coutts, brother of Margaret Penuel Gordon nee Coutts. Which would explain the similarty of their daughters' names

aha thanks x
