Title: British Army Muster Books and Pay Lists - Lookup
Post by: AmyUK on Friday 12 June 15 19:01 BST (UK)
Could someone please look on Ancestry at this new record for a Joseph Wood or Joseph Woods. All I know of him is that he was in the 1st Battalion of the Grenadier Guards and his daughter Eleanor was born in Westminster in 1834. He is listed on her marriage certificate in 1854 as being deceased. Am really stuck with him and the Grenadier Guards archives won't do a search for him without a birth year or death year.
Any info would be a great help.

It is Findmypast rather than Ancestry that have the majority of records from this period. If there is nothing on FindMyPast it is likely that he was not awarded a pension.

The muster books are what you need, but they are not on line. If you can not visit the National Archives you will have to employ a researcher.

Starting with the muster for the 1st Battalion in 1834 you can work forward until he leaves or dies. He should have a number by this time. Which will make it easier to get something from their archives.
