Hi,
Can any make a suggestion I have been looking for a marriage of this person William Hull born approx 1786 Cordwainer who lived in Grays Inn Barrett's court St Marylebone in the 1800 he married a Susanna ??? (could be Bird) I am assuming St Marylebone. I am also assuming 1799/1800. Most of his children are listed in the parish records of St Marylebone. His wife died in 1840 William died under the name Hall in 1855 in the St Marylebone workhouse. My daughter is going to London and I trying to find places for her to look for me . Is there any more St Marylebone church records to view in London?
Thanks in advance for your help
Kind regards
Brenny

FindMyPast has some possible marriages?
1802, St George Hanover Square
1807, St Martin-in-the-Fields
You can buy credits to enable you to look at these.
Ancestry should also have some marriage records - does your local library have Ancestry?
I can't see the details, but Ancestry is pointing towards Susanna Candler?
Both parishes were in The City of Westminster.
Parish Registers will be at the City of Westminster Archives Centre, and digitised on FindMyPast.

Thanks for the information,
Ive been a member of both but sadly Ancestry one is not the one they are too young married date is 1823 already had a few children by then. I will re check findmypast but I think its still another family.
One census record said he was from Yeovil should I look there? I don't know how reliable the census record is ?
kind regards

Hi
The William Hull born Yeovil was in Greenwich Hospital in 1851, a pensioner. The 1851 with a place name could be more reliable than the Y/N reply in 1841. :-\
Where do you have him in 1841
When was his first child born

Hi Brenny,
Can you list the Children you ave for them please?
I have found;
FRANCES ELIZABETH, 24 Feb 1822
MARIA CLARKE, 6 June 1824
CHARLES, 16 April 1827
FREDERICK Uriah, 17 Aug 1829
ELIZA, 7 Sept 1831
All St Marylebone to WILLIAM/SUSANNA Hull
+ a possible JOHN, 7 July 1816, Shoreditch St Leonard with same Parents names.
Do you have earlier Children to them?
I presume this is the Family in 1841;
William Hull, 55, Shoemaker
Thomas Hull, 20
Charles Hull, 15
Frederick Hull, 13
Maria Hull, 15
The reason I am seeking earlier Children you have is this;
I can find earlier Children to a WILLIAM or WM/WILLM Hall and SARAH SUSANNA SOPHIA or SUSANNAH SOPHIA in the same area 1803 to 1808
FreeREG has this Marriage;
27 June 1802, St George Hanover Square
William HALL, Bachelor, Parish St James, Westminster
Sarah Susanna Shophia CHOPPIN, Spinster, Father FREDK Choppin
By Licence, & with consent of her father
May be just a coincidence but William/Susanna name a Son Frederick .

Hi,
Sorry thats not the one 1840 he was living in Grays Inn Barrett court St Marylebone first child Susanna
I think was born 9/11/1809 St Giles Cripplegate listed father William as Cordwainer and mother Susanna,
William next 9/7/1813 St Botolph without Bishopgate
John next 12/6/1816 St Leonard Shoreditch
Thomas next 14/9/1818 "
the next 5 were all born at St Marylebone last one born 1830 wife died in 1840.
kind regards

But that is the correct 1841 Census though in Grays Ln?
-
Hi Trish,
Yes you have the right ones I come done through Frederick I have his marriage certificate which states his mothers name was Susanna bird /bryd? Its a Australian marriage certificate from Victoria 1859
wondering if you have the one?
Also have the death cert. of Susanna living in Barrett court William has listed as being present at the time of death .But it doesn't list a maiden name .
regards
Brenny

Hi Trish,
Just look at the Choppin/Hall records I don t think it him as he is listed as been a Tallow Chandler on the bonds/ marriage records on Ancestry.
Cheers

Ancestry has links with London Metropolitan Archives - which covers most of the metropolitan area of London, except the City of Westminster.
FindMyPast has links with City of Westminster Archives; so marriages in any parish covered by Westminster will only be found on FindMyPast.
-
FindMyPast has some possible marriages?
1802, St George Hanover Square
1807, St Martin-in-the-Fields
Just eliminating
Neither of these are to a Susan/Susanna ;)

FreeREG has this Marriage;
27 June 1802, St George Hanover Square
William HALL, Bachelor, Parish St James, Westminster
Sarah Susanna Shophia CHOPPIN, Spinster, Father FREDK Choppin
By Licence, & with consent of her father
William Hall clearly signed as Hall, one of the witnesses was also a Hall. On the same day Louisa Choppin, also a minor -dtr of Fredk married a Thomas Hall.

I see I had the wrong William Hull bn Yeovil in 1851 ::)
I would certainly be looking at a possibility he was born in Yeovil or nearby especially as other occupants of the property have listed London as their place of birth and he hasn't.
It is possible that he married Susanna before moving up to London.
-
Hi all,
Ive been on find my past not finding anything all the ones that you have listed have a different occupations , Im thinking maybe they did get married in yeovil ??? Ive only been looking for 7 years maybe it might come to light in the next few years, or someone up above give me a clue please come on great x5 granddad point me in the right direction ;)
cheers

Thank for excluding that one Rosie :)
-
:)
How old was Susanna when she died
-
Hi Rosie,
Death cert. said she was 54 years old listed her name Susannah 5/sept/1840 15 Grays Building
sub district The Rectory Marylebone. county of Middlesex
cheers Brenda
ps. love your dog picture I had a faithful blue roan for 14/12 year she died at christmas.x :)
-
Thanks brenny,
I did wonder if I could see a Susannah Bird birth that fits. There are some a few years either side in London so not an unusual name for the area.
Sorry to hear about your dog, she certainly had a long life. Mine is 6 and he sticks to me like velcro, he is my 4th cocker I lost the others before the age of 8.
Rosie
-
Yes Rosie mine was like velcro too. I been on Ancestry all day trying to match something. But nothing as yet! :-\
-
I can't see a marriage in London or Yeovil either ::)
-
Thanks Rosie,
I'll just keep looking, they might pop up one day give that gorgeous dog a hug from me .
cheers

I wonder if this is an indication that he was born in Yeovil :-\ Maybe it is Fredericks grandfather and he was named after him.
Uriah Hull
Burial Date 13 April 1800
Burial Place Yeovil, Somerset
FHL Film Number 1526122
There are some examples of a William Hull in Yeovil a Master with apprentices for 'glovers' shame it was not cordwainers, I wonder how different the training was.
-
Hi Rosie,
You could be on to something cordwainers so I been told trained as saddlers , glovers and shoes anything to to do with leather. There are a lot of William Hull's in Yeovil Ive looked before. One William Hull actually came to Victoria Australia but I haven't found the connection and he was a Glover from Yeovil I have never come across a Uriah Hull before so Ill have to get to a latter day saint centre to check records.
Thats a Million Rosie it my birthday today best present ever :-* :-* :-* :-*
cheeers
Brenny
-
A cordwainer is a shoemaker who makes fine soft leather shoes and other luxury footwear articles.
So, not too far removed from making gloves, also from fine soft leather?
-
Will keep looking for Uriah, there must be something out there
Hope you had a good birthday ;D (Alfie sends lots of cocker cuddles)
Rosie
-
Hi Rosie,
Yep, You could be on to something and thanks Alfie so the cuddles.
cheers Brenny :-* :-* :-*
