Title: Families of soldiers

Having trouble locating births/baptisms in Tiverton Devon and thought that as father was in the army and travelled around UK,Ireland, Scotland and overseas thought reason cannot find these records is that wife/children accompanied husband/father.  Would appreciate any feedback.  Period of time looking at 1826-1828

Welcome to Rootschat.

That could well be the reason. Have you found the children on later censuses? If you want to give names and possible dates someone might be able to find them for you.

Many thanks for quick reply.  My Ancestor Samuel Pitt being in the 4th Foot Regiment accompanied convicts to Sydney NSW in 1831. Samuel following his discharge decided to remain in New South Wales but did not try to arrange his family to join him. The Tiverton Poor Union/Church paid for his wife, Ann and three children Roger, Mary Ann (my Great Great Grandmother) and Charles in September 1837 to join him in Sydney.  I found records of Samuel (who later died) and Roger born prior to his enlistment but cannot find baptisms of my Great Great Grandmother Mary Ann Pitt born we believe between 1825-1826 and brother Charles Pitt born 1826-1827.  Any thought of finding any information on the Pitt Family in Tiverton Devon would be appreciated.

Samuel b.29/4/1820, bp.23/12/1821 - bur.1/5/1831
John     b.11/10/1821, bp.     ditto     - bur.29/11/1822
Roger b.25/8/1823, bp.14/9/1823
Mary Ann b.18/8/1825, bp.4/9/1825
Charles b.18/4/1827, bp.19/8/1827

Samuel shown as a Labourer on all the baptisms.

Possible baptism and parents of Samuel if you don't have it. He was born 1st December 1797.

Many many thanks for your assistance and findings.  We knew there was a John but did not what became of him so your info has been a great help.  Hard being way over the other side to try and find information.  I can now insert this information.  Pamela
