I have been trying to trace a brother of my father but not been successful, and am hoping somebody on here may see his name and know of him. He was Herbert Morgan born 14 August 1916 in Liverpool, father George Edward Morgan and mother Sarah nee Roberts. From my father's letters when he was in Burma WW2 he spoke of his brother Herbert in the RAF. I heard a rumour that Herbert may have been adopted, their mother Sarah died in 1919. I wish they would release the 1921 census as it may help me.

Hi have been trying for you, I am just wondering if Herbert went by the name Bert? The only reason is I can see a possible marriage to an Eva in 1936 and a departure of a Bert Morgan aged 37 occ Cabinet Maker Liverpool to New York 8th May 1953 on Vessel Brittanic with family address in UK 69, Chashan Street , Liverpool
Children range from 15 and then 6 & 2
Really clutching at straws for you!

Thank you for your reply, I'll take a look at that. I really don't remember any mention of an Uncle Herbert until I read my fathers letters from Burma, my father died when I was 10 but his other brothers remained in touch with us, my dad wrote that the RAF were just grand, masters of the skies, and said maybe our Herbert was in one of them, that's when I found we had another uncle so sent for his birth certificate. Thanks again for that information.

You say he might be adopted...there is a birth of a Herbert Morgan registered West Derby December quarter 1916 mother's maiden name Roberts which may be him. If he was born mid August you would expect his birth to be registered in the September quarter but there isn't any record.....might be worth getting a copy certificate.

Hello Sue, Thanks for your help, I did get a copy of his birth cert and luckily it was the right one, I did get a couple of wrong ones before I realised there were 2 Morgans with the mother's surname Roberts. I contacted the adoption agency and asked if they could help but they told me as the mother died 1919 there were no official records till 1923 or 24 not sure now, I don't think they would have told me anyway. I asked the Salvation Army if they would help I know they charge for research but they said I would have to go to my local branch and see if they could help.

There is a tree on Ancestry with the father George Edward Morgan and Sarah Ellen Roberts but no mention of a Herbert ...Have you checked to see if he might have been adopted by his mother or father's family ?

Hello Rosie17, Thanks for your help, I really don't know if he was adopted and there are no family members alive who can help, it looks like the only thing to do now is to wait for the 1921 census to see if that helps, and I'm not getting any younger. I was hoping that he got married and had children and that they may see this. I don't think I could even find his WW2 records with just his name and date of birth. Ruby1945
