I have a Hannah Foster born 1835 in Pickering, she had two siblings Daniel born 1825 and mary born 1837 ( this is assumed from census records).
On her wedding certificate it has no father listed, not deceased just a line through that section. Also on the birth register on ancestry it has no father but mother as Hannah Foster.
The 1841 census does not say whether the mother also Hannah is married and by the 1861 census she is remarried to a George Denham.
What now, surely not three illegitimate children. Am hoping you guys can point me in the right direction.

Have you found birth certs/ marriage certs for other two siblings? Are they also blank? It certainly sounds like your ancestor could be illegitimate.
It is possible to have multiple illegitimate children. My tree has a similar situation. If the father was already married or a higher social ranking etc they would not necessarily be declared on the certificate.

I think you have come to the correct conclusion, especially as the two you've found don't list a father. The other way would be to get her mother Hannah's marriage certificate to George and see what name and status, ie spinster or widow it gives on there.

Hi Hannah Denham 54 with George Denham 37 and in laws Foster children are on 1851 not 1861?

I have not ordered the wedding certificate yet but that will be my next step i think. Just have found a fresh pair of eyes on a situation can some times be helpful

Ann could be a substitute for Hannah. Getting the marriage certificate to George would be helpful as it will say if married before. (Could be James Foster was the father of Daniel but not of Mary or Hannah)

could be and the second two children born 1835 and 1839, just with the second name.

If Hannah and James were married, the illegitimate children would automatically be given the name of Foster.

If you are following the James and Ann (Hannah) as parents then it is worth noting there are a few other children (all born Pickering)
Jane baptised 11 September 1815 parents James and Hannah
Ruth baptised 13 may 1818 parents James and Hannah
James 21 July 1820 parents James and Hannah
Seth baptised 17 Feb 1823 parents James and Hannah
(NB Daniel in 1826 is the only one where the mother is Ann rather than Hannah)
Also having the other children gives an idea of the date for a marriage ie 1815 or earlier

At least that would tell you if she was previously married.
