Title: Find Ty Bach in Alderley Edge?

Hi,

I have a record of an Aunt living at Ty Bach, Brook Lane, Alderley Edge in 1953.

Does anyone know which house this would have been?

My only clue is 'Ty Bach' is Welsh for 'Little house'.

Ty Bach  if literally translated means" little house,"  but generally refers to the little room in the house, it always causes great amusement to the Welsh when the English name their home "the Toilet." It is so easy to fall into the trap of trying to use another language with all the different idioms.

I'd load up google streetview and go along the road, seeing if any of the houses had evidence of that name - e.g. on a gatepost or stone beside the door.  Although it's probably long gone, there's still the chance it might have been part of the structural build.  Maybe a painted name panel over the door, or something. 

It's worth a look if your PC is up to the task of loading Streetview ...since they changed it a few months ago it's tortuous on my PC.

Yes indeed.

They had a houses called Ty Carreg, Ty Gwyn and Ty Bach.

It might not be there anymore  :( - I think some of the houses on Brook Lane were lost when they built the Alderley Edge bypass (extension of the A34). In addition there is a 'trend' in the area for demolishing the old houses and building 'millionaires mansions'. On some roads there are hardly any of the 'old' houses left!
