Married an Elizabeth Clarke in Halesowen in 1817
I think he had the following Children
Joseph Horton Born 1820
Jane Horton Born 1823
Sarah Horton Born 1830
William Horton Born 1834
Can anyone find any reference of Parents or Siblings for Joseph Horton b1794 - been stuck for ages and its driving me mad.
Many Thanks in advance
Paul :)

Although he married in Halesowen - was he also born there or elsewhere? The only 1851 entry I can find was b Birmingham and living in Middlesex
Where did you get his birthyear from?

Hi,
Im Pretty Sure Joseph Horton b1794 died sometime between the birth of william in 1834 and the 1841 census. As the 1841 census in Rowley Regis by that time shows Elizabeth as a Widow and its been transcribed as Heston instead of Horton.
Elizabeth Heston 45
Joseph Heston 20
Jane Heston 15
Sarah Heston 10
William Heston 7
I have scoured the census data for that area and I'm pretty sure its them as Joseph my 4th Great Grandfather in 1851 Census is listed as living with his wife, daughters (which are 100% Correct confirmed) and Brother William. By which time Jane and Sarah are Married with their own families.
I also believe Elizabeth Horton (nee Clark(e)) Died between 1841 and 1851.

Hi
Have you assumed his birthyear or do you know for certain he was b 1794?
If he died before 1841 - you have no way of knowing whether he was born in Worcs or elsewhere. The family were in Staffs in 1841 and Elizabeth is shown as b Staffs

In the marriage transcript to Elizabeth it says they are both 'Of This Parish' so I'm assuming he's from there, as also going through other records theres a joseph horton who died in Rowley regis in 1826 who was born in 1794 but i think there maybe a transcription error on their part as his children william and sarah wouldn't have been born yet. - Though saying that i suppose they could be illegitimate children (Half Children) as it were as I can only find baptisms for Joseph and Jane which reference both Joseph And Elizabeth together

Hi
"of this parish" just means they satisfied the 3 weeks or so residential requirement to marry there.
Elizabeth is shows as born in county (Staffs) in 1841 and prior to 1844- Halesowen came partly under Shropshire

Hi Paul,
Try FreeREG, http://www.freereg.org.uk/ There are a number of Joseph HORTONs Baptised in Staffordshire. Try HOUGHTON as well since the Soundex option doesn't appear to include these.
I don't know how complete the county records are though. Try FamilySearch as well.
Cheers
Mike
