I have been searching the two surnames for Esther. Her marriage certificate looks as though it is Wade. This means her parents are John and Hannah but on the Vital Records site her son's Joseph has his maternal grandparents as Thomas and Mary Ward. To add to this Esther is noted as being born in Pudsey. Esther Wade was born in Bramley Leeds.
I would appreciate any help with this matter.

Does the marriage certificate not give a clue as to the father's name and occupation?
If you let us know the date and location of the marriage we might be able to find a parish record or even a newspaper item to help.
All the best

FindMyPast has a marriage of Joseph Gaunt and Esther Wade on 20 November 1815 at Calverley, Yorkshire, both of this parish.
Neither signed but made their mark. This might help to identify Esther - one of the witnesses was Benjamin Wade (the other being John Graysham).

Benjamin Wade could be her brother. There is a baptism record for a Benjamin Wade on 4 Feb 1794 at St. Mary, Barnsley son of Joseph and Hannah Wade, born on 23 Jan 1794. This ties in with a baptism for Esther Wade, daughter of Joseph & Hannah, on 3 April 1795 at Ossett, Dewsbury.
Also ties in with your mentioning that Esther had a son Joseph - presumably named after his maternal grandfather.
What Vital Records site are you looking at which mentions Thomas & Mary Ward?

I'd advise a bit of caution here: Barnsley, Ossett/Dewsbury and Calverley aren't particularly close, and there are plenty of folk called Wade in and around Calverley without needing to "import" someone from miles away. Admittedly there isn't the birth/baptism of a suitable Esther on the excellent Calverley Info site (http://www.calverley.info/calv_enter.htm), but she may be from somewhere nearby instead. Did she survive until the 1851 census, and give a birthplace?

Hey, I'm assuming the OP will check out whether the info I've suggested could be of use! For all I know the whole supposition might be incorrect as the OP didn't give a time frame for the marriage of Joseph Gaunt & Esther so there may be another one at some point in time in which case all suggestions will be null and void.
As is said with all info supplied - always check the original and I would expect all OP's to check out the info given in response to their queries.
So yes, Denise, do take our suggestions with caution.

The original BMD records are available, because of holidays there would be a delay for me to post.
[To confuse the issue, there is a Joseph and Ester Gaunt listed as unmarried brother and sister?]

Thank you so much for all your time and efforts. I will carefully look at the info you have sent. I have been using the Calverley Vital Records and this is where I found the names of the maternal grandparents. Esther and Joseph did not call one of their sons Thomas. Up until finding this record I had presumed her parents were John and Hannah Wade for they had two children John and Hannah. The interesting thing was that their first two sons were called William and Samuel. Samuel and Martha Gaunt had a son Joseph born in 1792 but that was in Morley and all census state that Joseph came from Pudsey.
All the best
