Hi Julie,
I cant find a John Cook c 1812 with either of those birth places on 1851 Census
What else do you know about him? Who/when did he Marry?
Trish :)
-
Can't see a suitable baptism either though there is one in Brighton in 1808 for John Taylor Cooke, son of Nathaniel and Mary.
What else do you know about him?
-
Aah from earlier post possible Father Ralph.
I am a bit worried as to Sarah Anns age to have married 1837.
Where did you get her maiden name from?
A Childs Birth Cert?
Is this the right Family in Hove in 1851?
John Cook 37 born Fetching
Sarah Cook 29 born Preston
Sarah Cook 8
Caroline Cook 6
John Cook 3
I can find Sarah/Caroline/John Williams Christenings 1843/1844/1847 but no earlier Children.
If they married 1837 have you found them in 1841 Census?
Are there earlier Children born before 1843?
Trish :)

I can't see a baptism in Fletching either. www.theweald.org is a good site for that area.
He is described as a brickmaker of Marshalls Row, Brighton at Caroline's baptism in 1844. There is also a John, bricklayer, and Mary having children at that time so easy to confuse them.

hi helpers thanks for your help, I found Sarah Ann Godley on find my past marrying a John Cook 1837 and yes there does seem to be a long time before children were born. I have found a John Cook re 1851 census from Fletching, but have been unable to find birth record. My other candidate John Cook Re. 1861 census gives birthplace as Preston Sussex but the childrens names seem to agree. The start for my search comes from my Grandfather Alfred Cook born Portslade 1900 his father was John William cook married to Elizabeth Mustchin on the Marriage cert. his father is named John Cook, my father, grandfather were bricklayers bytrade so there is a connection I'm sure, but my John Cook 1812,13,14 from Preston sussex, Cliftonville, Fletching who knows whose who,or are they all one in the same but John and sarah Ann Godley did have a son John William Born 1847 whom I'm assuming is the same John Wiliam who marries Elizabeth hope you can get some sense out of this post, seem to be going round in circles. If we could find a birth mother for John that would be helpful, on Marriage cert. for John and Sarah Ann john's father is listed as Ralph but to date have not made that connection either. Thanks for any further clues cheers julie

Hi ya the childrens naming pattern is conducive to my knowledge but too date haven't found any other siblings before 1843 that i'm happy to tie in makes things difficult when sarah can just be noted as sarah with head john on one census then as sarah ann on another, my info is very sketchy at best so will keep trying thanks for your interest. Any ideas how I can attack from a different angle? pretty new at this ? cheers

The info was from the Sussex Family History Group Database.

Makes the £12 or so to join for the year well worthwhile.
