Recently received a photo of a headstone, with details of a relative on there I.e. Edward Richardson born 1906 Gateshead, Durham, England. He Married an Irene May Bell, both buried at Ocklynge Cemetary, Old Town nr Eastbourne. The lady who sent this to me has not been able to find a Marriage for them. Anyone with information I would love to hear from you. Parents of Edward are Edward Richardson and Elizabeth Peel.

I had a quick look doing a marriage search for both Edward and Irene, but nothing came up. Is it possible that Irene may have been married before?
-
Hi,
Was she married before? If so what was her maiden name as I notice on the photo it says mother of Donald Bell. She may have married using her maiden name, if Bell was her previously married name
I searched too and could find nothing with Bell and Richardson.
Kind Regards

Good spotting, Cell. I didn't even see that. ::)

I didn't spot it straight away though , wish I had. I noticed it about 30 minutes into my searching for the marriage. :)
Kind regards

Long shot: an Edward H Richardson married to a Florence Bell, Auckland, 10a, 512, Sep 1/4, 1928.
There are several Florence M Bell's born in Durham in the appropriate time frame.
She wouldn't be the first woman to use a different name from her birth one.....

Hi
The death for Irene May Richardson is also indexed as Irene May Bell. That could suggest that they were not married, her death certificate may help clarify her marriage status.

Here is a possibility based on the previous marriage theory:
- Edward Richardson married Irene Goundry in 1956 in Durham NW
- Irene Bell married Joseph Goundry in 1941 in Watford
Questionable geographically with respect to the Watford marriage and as no middle initial given for Irene on either marriage, but the names and dates could be feasible.

There's a will for Edward (can't find one for Irene under Bell or Richardson)
which matches his death on the grave and in the death indexes
RICHARDSON EDWARD, date of probate 04 December 2000 date of death 26 September 2000 Grant and will , registry Brighton.

Because her child may be living I won't post the exact details, but going by her age and a search for the child's birth on the gravestone , so a search in-between 1913 ( just in case it was teen pregnancy) and 1950 (ending when she would have been 51). There is an interesting birth in 1932 that caught my eye, it's in Lancashire though - Could Irene be from around Lancashire or maybe even further up the British isle? Hence "Bonnie Lass" (the words on the stone)
