Hello I have just recently discovered my 5 x great grandfather William Palmer was a gunmaker and cutler of Strood. Iam interested to try and find out more information on him and his family. Some information I've obtained from census work and by googling "gun maker"
William Palmer born c1769 poss Chatham Gunmaker married Charlotte ? abt 1800
children are as follows

Eliza 1804-1807
William Edward 1807-1807
Eliza 1807
Ann 1808
Sarah Sussanna 1809-1894 married William G Chaney (went to NZ)
John Henry 1810-1875
George Robert 1813-
Edward Alexander 1815-1874 Gun maker married Alice Barber
Matilda 1819-1899

William PALMER was Buried 21 May 1839, St Nicholas of Myra, Rochester, Kent age 70 (1769) as you have.
Charlotte his Wife 23 Jan 1853 same Church age 75

Mary would have to be very pregnant (not unusual in those days) but this is a possible Marriage from FreeREG;

Not the Leeds mentioned born c 1766 but there is this Mariage that must be a Grandchild I presume of his;
LEEDS Paine married Caroline Mary WEBB, 1 Jan 1824, St Nicholas of Myra, Rochester, Kent

And what stonemason William and his son were - unfortunately the Christchurch Cathedral met its demise just recently. Randolph Theodore Chaney was born on 10th September, 1850 at Bay of Biscay aboard the “Randolph” on its way to Lyttelton.
