Title: Sgt Arthur BARKER 1621971 killed 09.12.1944
Post by: minersgranddaughter on Saturday 16 May 15 09:45 BST (UK)
Hi

I am looking for information on the family of Sergeant (Navigator) 1621971 Arthur Barker, RAF.

He was the son of George and Elsie Barker of Huddesfield, Yorkshire.  Mother's maiden name possibly Gillon.  He was killed on 9th December 1944, on board Wellington Bomber BJ782 from 21 OTU RAF Moreton-in-Marsh which crashed at Adderbury, Oxfordshire, following an engine failure. He was 21.

We live in Adderbury and my son is researching the crash for a school project.  We also hope to ask the parish council to install a memorial plaque at the crash site and perhaps to hold a memorial service to remember the crew.

Ideally, we are ultimately hoping to get in touch with living relatives, but any information about the family which helps us to do this would be helpful.

You may wish to ask britishwargraves.co.uk for a photo of his grave in Oxford (Botley) cemetery to help illustrate the project?

Your son could write a letter to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner giving all the information you have on Arthur's family.  If he has family still in Huddersfield they may contact you.

The email address is letters@examiner.co.uk
