Please help this grandma! I need an idiot's guide to resizing images because I can't open Cazza's guide.
Then I can put 3 motor cars in!

Hi Jacqueline,
Images on RootsChat need to be under 500kb in size, you can check you image size out by right clicking on "properties" and it will show you the size, the one I just looked at was 308kb which would be fine.
If you image is larger than this size you would then need to change the image dimensions to make it a smaller image hence smaller kb's. Most photograph image software can be used to reduce image sizes.
Hope that this helps
Regards
Sarah :)

What happens when you click on the guide
If you have (free) Adobe Acrobat it should open
Are you using a proper computer, or a tablet or?

On my pc I looked at my saved image. I rt clicked on image on Windows photo viewer and got dimensions both ways 1368 x 865, 1368 pixels wide by 865 pixels wide and resolution both ways (which I knew) and bit depth - 24 but none of those figs looked like a fig under 500.????

Just a suggestion but can you email it to someone on here that can then do it for you ?
You can usually send an image that's a lot bigger over email.
Happy if you want me to do it, if so send it to .......

no sooner read than done. On its way now, thank you so much

If you look at the properties of the image [left click, properties], it gives the dimensions - 1368 x 865 pixels - and also the amount of space the image occupies in memory. The memory usage is measured in megabytes - could be something like 4.2 mb. You need to get that number below 500kb, which is to say 0.5 mb. You can use any graphics program to do so. For example, Microsoft Office. Left click on the image, select 'open with' and then select Microsoft Office. Click on the 'Edit Image' tab, then on 'Change Size.'

I don't have "Office" - I have "open Office." I presume that will do as well?

Here t'is

I am not familiar with 'Open Office' but the procedure would probably be similar. Just left click on the image and select the 'Open With' command to choose the graphics program you want to use; your computer may have several choices. The graphics program will open up the image file and allow you to edit it, including changing its size. For example, I have an image that is 4000 X 3000 pixels and 4.69 mb - way too big for RootsChat. I can reduce it to 20% of its original size - 800 X 600 and only 204 kb. Save the reduced image under a different name so as not to lose the original which has more information content.

It's a nice picture!
