Haven't tried it myself but am reliably informed code is
facebook50
:)
-
Hi,
I'll ask the question, because nobody else has.
Is this a reliable offer?
50% off an annual sub sounds a too good to be true deal ( I really don't mean that to sound rude! :)) There have been massive errors in the past regarding these so-called deals with FindMyPast.
Are you sure it is not 50% off a month's sub?
People tend to be very wary (and rightly so)if you don't post your source
Kind regards :)
-
The source of the promotion has quite evidently come off facebook, hence the discount code.
To reliably check the validity of this code (for example) or any other for that matter for yourself, go to:
https://www.findmypast.co.uk/pay (or if you are on their home page, click on "Subscribe")
On the bottom right of the page is a thing that says:
"Got Discount Code?"
If you have a discount code enter it here [Apply]
So put in the discount code, press [Apply], and (if valid) you will see the discount applied.
So in this particular example (if valid), it is applied to the 12 month deal, not the monthly one.
If you are happy with this, then you can press the blue "Subscribe" button under the 12 month deal.
This is not a RootsChat promotion, and the details can't be verified - and I imagine they can quite rightly withdraw the discount code at any time, or restrict it's use.
-
But where off Facebook did the discount code come from?
"and quite rightly so can withdraw the offer at any time" - which they did last time to many people who took up a very similar sounding offer (I wasn't one of them, but many people here did get burnt)
Kind Regards :)
ps home page - "50% offer" big button - click on it and it says "this offer is no longer available" for some reason
I'm very sceptical of 50% annual subs involving FindMyPast especially after the last fiasco.
-
Here is our link to facebook: www.facebook.com/rootschat
Nobody got burnt, they were refunded.
There isn't a 50% off button on the home page that I can see, but we're in the UK.
Have you entered the code in yourself, to see if it is valid?
Trystan
-
I entered the code and it said applied :)
I think its from their Facebook page
-
yes and I get :
"12 Months
Normal Price:£8.29
£4.15*
per month
Voucher discount 50%
Subscribe
* Charged as a single payment of £49.75"
BUT where has that discount code come from? - a page that states the code .
Last time they did not honour many subscribers who took up a similar offer, because there was a huge error on their behalf- Call me sceptical .
It's an absolute great offer if it is not one of their errors again
Kind regards :)
-
Don't ask me, I'm just the monkey.
Parmesan has answered you I think. ???
Here is their page: www.facebook.com/findmypast have a look there to see if you can find it.
Looks like it works then?
Happy days. :)

Thank you Parmesan and Trystan for the follow ups
If I could ask, if this is the right spot, the difference between Ancestry and FindMyPast ie what do I get on one and not the other and/or is it prudent to have both?
-
https://www.facebook.com/genealogybargains/posts/973887989301654
That says the offer expires 30th April 2015 ::)
-
from my own experience - FindMyPast has gazillions of lovely records - lots of parish records but the new system introduced in 2014 has left searching difficult for many.
Ancestry has its problems too but I find searching easier.
That is just me though and I usually, as currently, have subs to both.

Sorry, may be the wrong link, as I am involved in other stuff at the mo and just trying to dip in here ;D
The code did work for me though but will look for another posting of it.
-
Hi,
I still can't see it - the newest one I can see " EXCLUSIVE! FindMyPast 50% Off Sale – good for ALL 12-month subscriptions and ALL countries – for United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Read the post below for the promo code and remember offer expires April 30th at 11:59 pm local time – via FindMyPast."
Read the post, still can't see the code Facebook50 on a recent post, plenty of other expired codes and posts though.
Kind regards :)
-

Thank you. I had read of this in an article in a comparison test...but as a new user I figure I wont have anything to compare ie old search v new.
I do see quite a lot more newspaper records seem to be available on FindMyPast, is this correct?
-
Parmesan, don't bust a gut. If it is valid and it works that's the main thing.
Brilliant offer. :)

I know the feeling ;D
I currently have a half price sub on FindMyPast and another waiting to kick in when the first one expires. I also tried their £10 offer that was withdrawn which they refunded with no problems and gave me a small sweetener to keep me happy.
I also have Ancestry and flit between them.

Hi,
Ancestry do not have access to British newspapers online, (I've been a subscriber to Ancestry for years , and have been a FindMyPast subscriber too ) As you are in Australia - you do not need to pay for an expensive sub to access some of these papers. If you are not aware of it, you can join the Australian National Library ( it's free) - they will send you a card with a pin on it to access their eResources, you can then access the British papers for free in your own home.

Kind regards :)
-
Cheers Cell :)
Always good to know of another way
I did see on FindMyPast that South Australian Electoral records are available. As a lazy person from way back that suits my needs. Though a train trip into town on Saturday before the Crows win would be an easier way to look at the electoral books in the State Library ;D

And that's why 50% off attracts me :)

I couldn't get the 50% code to work, but found another £1 monthly sub code which did, so I am pleased. :)

Hi,
free is better ;D If it is the old British newspapers that you are interested in , you should really be using the resources that the National Library gives free to all people here, whilst many people in other countries either have to pay subs for, or sit in a library that has the access to exactly the same newspapers.
Kind Regards :)

In some parts of the UK you can use your county library access to these papers from home. My library gives me access to The Times & C19th century newspapers in the comfort of my own home

Hi,
I have heard that hence my "many" and not all.
In Australia, it's for all, no matter where you live in Aus . It's a simple matter of filling in the online form at the National Library ( just want your name and address etc) .They will send you a National library card in the post with a pin number on it, and you can access their eResources.
The National Library have some wonderful free resources , and yet many Aus users still don't know about some of these resources that they can access for free, and will pay companies for these records.
Kind Regards :)

I have heard that hence my "many" and not all.
In Australia, it's for all, no matter where you live in Aus .
So it should be ;) Distances from home to a nearest library in Australia often can't be compared with the UK ;D

They have recently closed our local library off ( but that's another story - my family has had more enough of me on the war path with our library closure that I tried to fight with our corrupt councillors ( I wanted to put a swear word here instead of "corrupt- (corrupt is far too polite a word for these certain councillors ;D)
Kind Regards :)

Thanks for the heads up. :)
Just extended my membership, that was due to expire in October, by another year.
-
I just tried the discount and it didn't work. I am in Australia and have a full FindMyPast membership valid until January 2016. Bummer! :'(

Haha I tried last night and had success ...until I was informed I didn't have enough on my debit card. Fixed it today and re-subscribed.
Don't capitalise I just put facebook50. Join/log in and when asked to subscribe place code in appropriate box
Good Luck :)
-
Worked for me, now subscribed up to 2017, many thanks Parmesan. :)

Got the discount. Thanks so much. YIPPEE!

Thanks Parmesan i've renewed my previous half price subscription. I was waiting on an half price offer.
-
Just tried it but its saying the code is no longer valid GRRR
-
I think somebody mentioned that it all needs to be in lowercase (no capitals), and no spaces.
-
I can confirm that's what i did trystan and got mine extended.
-
Very pleased it's working for you, well most of you :)
-
Many thanks Parmesan - I was just successful - now subscribed until October 2016, great!!

Still working! Great :)
-
Thanks Parmesan, it worked for me too ;D
Anyone who has taken out the sub, make sure you untick the "auto renew" box in personal details or they will automatically take the full amount for another year when this one expires ;)
-
Thanks Parmesan!
Had been considering subscribing so have taken advantage of this offer. Made sure I unticked the 'auto renew' box as suggested by Jool too. :)

My friend tried to take advantage of the offer in order to extend her membership an hour after I was successful. She got the message that it was not available to her and the explanation was that she already had a subscription.
The only difference between us is that she had had a free three month extension not long ago so we wonder if that was the cause of the her being refused. Seems like luck of the draw!

-
Code still working just renewed till August 2016.
Eddie.
-
Don't know about that Selina, I have had 6 months worth of free extension although they stopped giving them to me a while back. I also previously took advantage of half price offers and my subscription now runs up to January 2017 so haven't use this particular one. It shouldn't really preclude you from the offer.
facebook50 is still working for me if I apply the code. Maybe she should try again.
-
If you are so inclined and you have deep pockets, you could use the code twice. ;)
-
Tried again today. My subscription runs out in July so I would like to take advantage of this offer, but it is still telling me that the offer is no longer valid. Can't think what I'm doing different to those who are successful. ???
-
click 'upgrade' enter
facebook50 (all lower case)
offer should apply.
Odd if it works for some and not others
-
Thank you for the info - just upgraded 'til Dec 2016 :)

Thanks so much Parmesan, I'd been entering the code in the box on the homepage and kept getting the code expired message but have now managed to get the discount.

Followed the instructions and renewed until july 2016. I got a discount- £116 instead of £129, so not 50% but better than nothing! :)

That sounds like a World Subscription. the 50% off may have only applied to the Britain Subscription

Nope
My price was $199au and I paid $99au
:)
Though exchange rates may apply

Wow! Code just worked for me - an ancient returning FindMyPast member who cancelled in frustration when the search engine was changed a couple of years back!! 12 Month Britain Subscription for only £49.95 - has more than made up for the several months' frustration I experienced way-back when I could no longer find records that I'd previously accessed on their website.
Thanks Parmesan & other posters. ;D
-
A big thanks from me too - just renewed until December 2016. Whoopee!
